Fistandantalus's Journal

I'm FUNNY, Darnitall!

My son Nigel, aged seven, has been invited to participate in a fundraiser for Susan G. Komen this October.  He is to decorate a plain white bra that will be sold at auction to raise money.  Nigel is the youngest person ever chosen to participate in this project.  His bra will go on display at a fancy boutique in Fort Worth and he gets to attend the black-tie function to kick off the auction, to speak about his piece and why breast cancer research is important to him.

Nigel has raised over $3000 for Susan G. Komen over the last four years with his yearly summer Lemonade Stand for Breast Cancer.  The reason he's such an avid supporter is because our friend Aimee is a breast cancer survivor; it was hearing her story of treatment and recovery that inspired him to get involved.  He is still too young to participate in the walk; this project is a great way for him to make a difference.

I know, the idea of a seven-year-old boy decorating a bra seems weird; in all honesty, his first reaction was one of slight confusion.  However, once he wrapped his mind around the idea, he's been coming up with ideas left and right.  This is going to be a fun project.

I am very proud of Nigel.  He is a giving soul.

Could he use a white sports bra instead of a regular bra? That would give him a bigger "canvas," so to speak. I can't wait to see what he comes up with!
