As those of you who know me are already aware, I am a Girl Scout. I love Scouting, and as goofy as it may seem, I am proud to wear the trefoil and be a part of this wonderful association. I am the leader of each of my three daughters' Girl Scout Troops. The emphasis in scouting is upon community service, and developing each girl into a leader, who is filled with integrity and concern for others. (Plus, we make the best Smores, hands down!)
Tonight at my youngest daughter's meeting, I was reflecting upon the Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout Law, which each girl has committed to memory and recites at the beginning of each Girl Scout meeting and event . I was thinking about how wonderful this world would truly be if everybody lived like a Girl Scout.
The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor,
I will try,
to serve God
and my Country,
to help people at all times,
and to live by the Girl Scout Law.
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong,
and be responsible for what I say and do,
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place,
and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
How cool would it be to live in a world in which everyone lived by the Girl Scout promise and law?

science-spot, I am excited for your daughter too. Girl Scouts rocks! Don't forget every troop is as good as its leader. Definitely get involved if you can, it is tremendous fun, even as an adult! Thanks for commenting.
I always wanted to be in Girl Scouts but I was not allowed...took to much time away from my mother :(
great post though :D
God bless,
Sheri
I was from 2nd to 6th grade, and my daughter has been since kindergarten, unfortunately this may be her last year. She doesn't want to anymore, which maks me sad.
I was a Girl Scout when I was a child (2nd grade - 12th grade). Girl Scouts provided opportunities for me to do things I otherwise would of never been able to do. I went on to summer camp every summer and went on canoe trips to the Boundry Waters and Canada, whitewater canoeing in Wisconsin and I hiked the Continental Divide in Colorado as a Wider Opportunity with girls from all over the United States including staying with a host family in Estes Park for part of the trip. It was a great experience. Then when my oldest daughter became old enough, I became the leader of her troop until 8th grade. She then joined Venture Crew ( a coed division of the Boy Scouts) and she went on a backpacking trip to Philmont Arizona.
Do you start out as a Brownie in the Girl Scouts? If so then I was a Brownie for I think 2 yrs and I still have my pin. Not sure what happen but I was not longer in it and then when I was 8 or 9 I joined 4-H. Did that clear up to 18 and loved it. So when Gabby gets older she will be joining Girl Scouts!
