There are a lot of beautiful and kind moms here on Cafemom but this one time I felt the need to send out a public thank you to one of them. I work in an alternative school and many of the children who attend have difficult home lives. One little girl in my classroom has a mother who we knew was going through chemotherapy treatments. The little girl had really said nothing about her feelings or experience with what her mother was going through until one day she came up to me and whispered in my ear, "my mom lost all her hair". She told me that on the very day that I had met Calydu on cafemom. Calydu, despite personal (and major) health challenges of her own, makes crafts to send to moms who have lost their hair due to chemo. She calls her creations "cancer caps". That very afternoon I e-mailed Calydu on behalf of "my" little girl and requested a cancer cap for her mother. Not only did Calydu send TWO caps for the girl's mother, but she sent TWO really sweet caps for the little girl as well! She also paid for the shipping and handling of these items. Even though the cost to mail them was not that much, I do recognize the personal effort on Calydu's part (in light of her health issues right now), to make, package and then to mail off these gifts. On the morning after receiving the caps, the little girl told me, "my mom wore her yellow cap to bed last night and I wore my pink one"! So, Calydu, with heart felt thanks I dedicate this post to you and thank you for your loving gifts and for putting someone else's pain ahead of your own. May your kindness be repaid to you a hundred fold! Thank you.
