Oh my he went there!

 I've been meaning to post this since last weekend but things got hectic. 

Last weekend, Nate crawled into bed to cuddle with me in the morning, which he does often on Sat/Sun AMs.  I had turned on the news and we watch it almost daily.  Unfortunately, last week an 11yo girl was abducted and molested (and released otherwise unharmed) so Nate was listening as the reporter said she was 'taken into an abandoned house' and the man 'had sex with her.'

I wasn't totally expecting it, but was still quick enough when i got the, "Mommy, what's sex?"   So I explained only that (and I really don't want to hear any flaming here) that's what a man and a woman do when they love each other and how they make a baby. 

"So you and Jeff had sex?"  I'm almost fire engine red here and choking.  "Yes, baby, we did."

Momentary pause... "So, how do you get sex?" Ok, at this point i totally flaked out!  I told him he's a bit young to understand.  it's sort of complicated but that I promise i will explain it to him in a year or two when it won't be so tough to understand. 

I've always been very scientific with him.  He knows its a penis and testicles, vagina for a girl.  Yes, for a young kid, i had used peebug, but he knows the word.  He knows that sex makes babies and not that a stork brings 'em.  I'm very open when he asks questions about what's going on in my body with the baby, etc.  I just ... ugh.

And the bad thing is that kids are having sex younger and younger, so i truly believe that he NEEDS to know and that an honest discussion should come shortly for him.  (i know kids having sex at 10, no joke! Ugh!! What happened to the days when your biggest worry that young was explaining the 'don't talk to strangers' ideal?!)  But i honestly think that, at this young of an age, that's too much.  he's still at the show-and-tell stage, where when he learns something he wants to go out and show it to everyone and talk all about it.  I dont need my son getting labeled as a sex offender!

Anyone else had to deal with this stuff?

Ya did good, that's not too soon to open up those lines of conversation...just in case he over hears MORE on the playground & comes to you for clarity.

Well, i figger I coulda said 'some people pay for it, lots of people lie to get it, some just take it and still others just let it happen' but i think he was going for details.  Yeah. Not gonna go there yet.  Can you just see him explaining the technicalities of intercourse with his Kindergarten class?... or the grocery store clerk.. or some random person who has the bad sense to answer his, "Guess what?!"
