OH my word! I watched that video and was infuriated.. How can we help children as adults when the adults have no control over themselves.. she should have been charged and prosecuted for murder plain and simple

the system didn't only fail the mom, it failed to do right by this boy, which is the biggest crime of all. The teacher is there for the students. to help them in what ever way possible, not to hurt them. I do not care what the situation. If you can not handle a child, call for assistance, do not harm a child. I work with kids, and would NEVER restrain a child like this!  I would let the child stand till they get tired of standing before I would hurt them.

I just don't get how you can rule it a homicide and not prosecute the teacher.

It's disgusting!!!!

The school system GREATLY needs to invest in re-training those already teaching and make it MANDATORY upon entering school for a teaching degree to learn about and ways to work children on the spectrum and with behavioural needs. This is too much of an epidemic to only leave it to the Spec Ed dept...EVERY teacher needs to have as much training and understanding to meet whatever challenge arises in the classroom...And to call for assistance when it goes beyond their control with those skilled in such situations.

Others will disagree...But society has to accept there is an epidemic...And classrooms are integrated...And training from the get go is needed

I saw this story on the news last night, and the very idea is terrifying to me.  How could they ever let those people back in any classroom?

I am a teacher who supports teacher reform.  The current systems gives unions the power to protect all teachers, including the ones who shouldn't be allowed around children.  I doubt this was the first incident with that teacher.

The school is just as responible!  They allowed the teacher to do this.  She should be charged with murder and the school should be charged with negilgent homicide.

No autistic child deserves to be treated like that.  My son is autistic and 9 times out of 10 he can be redirected to do what you ask.  Our public schools have the seclusion rooms.  I flat out told them if my son goes in one I will sue the school district on a federal level.  The room is a padded cell.  My child is autistic not psychotic.  This is just a horrific example of abuse of the disabled and proof the the laws do not protect these children.  Shame on them!
