The video below is NOT real (despite being filmed on a mobile phone) The people in it are ACTORS.
It is an ANTI-TEENAGE pregnancy campaign
****WARNING: Very Graphic****
An NHS Trust was today criticised for releasing a graphic film clip of a young girl giving birth on a school playing field.
The Trust bosses hope the shocking footage, filmed on a mobile phone, of the bloodied girl in the midst of childbirth will shock teenagers into not getting pregnant.
But critics say it will not accomplish anything, and may make children worried about giving birth in the future.
I first saw this video while doing my usual rounds on my favourite news site. This popped up and i decided to watch.
I burst into tears watching it. It terrified me. Which, i guess is what they wanted right?
But, I'm 18 (19 in less then a month) so this advert doesn't apply to me right? This is for girls and boys who are between the ages of 13 and 17.
It is part of a campaign by Leicester City Council and the NHS to try and cut the number of teenage pregnancies in the city.Around one in 20 girls aged between 15 and 17 become pregnant each year and nearly half the city's council wards are deemed teenage pregnancy 'hot spots'.
What can i say really? The video is scary. Its shocking and does exactly what its meant to. But, will it actually stop teenagers from getting pregnant at such a young age.
Because as im sure we all know, all teenage pregnant girls go into labour on the schools playing field right?
I honestly can't form an opinion on this. Except:
If i wasn't already pregnant. I wouldn't EVER want to get pregnant after watching this.
I'm still crying.

I think 16 year olds may take it seriously, any younger would probably laugh like you said.
I'm a teenage mother and work for a teenage pregnancy unit in Staffordshire, working with social workers and teachers to make sure these mums to be are set up for life. I will give presentations to councils and in schools about the issues surrounding teenage pregnancy.
IMO this is a good approach....but could have adverse effects too. Liek you said, those who are already pregnant....its going to terrify them, particularly young ones.
The right approach is tackling the education system...TEACHING and EMPHASISING the importance of safe-sex. Promoting the use of condoms and showing youngsters how a pregnancy so young can influence your life.
Yes I have three daughters and im a young mum....and no i dont regret it at all. BUT that being said, i would not in any sense reccomend it to others. THIS is the approach that needs to be taken, showing teens the sleepless nights, the endless doctors appts for vaccines, coughs, colds ,sneezes...the mess, the money, the stretchmarks.
So many see a baby as something cute, cuddly and want that. That is what needs to be changed.
Oh hey little knickers, i din;t realise it was you till i hit the bottom of what you said.
I agree whole, heartedly. Did you know leiceter was a hotspot for teen pregnancy?
well maybe these sexually frustrated kids from 11 to 17 who are these days nothing more than sex crazy, alcoholly buzzed and cigarette smoke outlets! girls don't help.. especially by allowing their immature bodies become sports facilities for young adolecent school boys! boys, who have no idea were they are going and naturally end up somewhere else yet these silly school girls think that the sun shines out of these sex crazed male baboons like animals who will do anything to get a girl into having sex... so annoying! so my question is DON'T THESE GIRLS GET ANY SORT OF COMMON SENSE FROM THERE MENTORS.. or have they just left there sexual frustrated daughters to listen to the nonsense of their fellow class mates or school boys pressuring them into sex... its madness sex crazed Briton, Tax rip off, slaves to the system and Big Brother spying on us... we're doomed if this is this the start of our future! best wishes E. Scrooge

ITA. There are like 12-14 yr old girls on TV who are TRYING to get pregnant. Makes me wonder if they've ever spent a whole day w/ a real baby instead of those dolls they like to carry around.
No i didn't know that....but Stoke-on-trent has the highest rate of mothers under 20 in the UK apparently. It's a real 'problem' here.
I think it's crazy that you think this video doesn't apply to you, because you're out of the 'default' 13-17 age range...by one year?
Really, 18 still ends in teen, as does nineteen - this video applies to you as much as it does anyone else. You're not exempt.
God.
I wasn;t saying i was exepmt. That whole paragraph was a question! I simply wrote that THAT age range was whom it was aimed at. I know im eighTEEN.
Grow up tallen. i was making a point. 13-17 aren't the only "red zone" ages.
You just let things fly over your head don't you.

I think more kids will laugh at it than think about it. Pregnancy and birth and humorous media now. What makes this any different from one of those comedy movies about pregnant women which always leads to a begging-for-an-epidural birth? Nothing really. This won't do anything. If there were more frequent and realistic things on pregnancy/parenthood exposed to teens, it may help some of them stay safe. Like all the pregnancy blood work, how long labor usually lasts, how far you have to dilate, what a tear and stitched look like there, the risks of an epidural, the stubborn baby fat, sore/bloody/cracked nipples from nursing, the risks of bottle feeding, a colicky baby, a sick baby, sleep deprivation, and all that stuff.
