I had no idea this kid would need to eat!

I had no idea that he would poop on things, puke on things and break stuff in my house!

Don't hear that very often, do you?  I would imagine you ESPECIALLY don't hear that from people who are at the same time trying to get rid of their children or telling others not to have children entirely because they are so awful.

Sadly I hear this every day, although it's in regards to furry children instead of the human kind.

I just want to say something here, and I will try to be short, sweet and to the point.

If you have obtained a Golden Retriever and are shocked and appalled because it retrieves; you are a dumbass.

If you have obtained a Pointer and are shocked and appalled because it points; you are a dumbass.

If you have obtained a Pit Bull and are shocked and appalled because it is aggressive towards other dogs; you are a dumbass.

IT IS NOT YOUR DOG'S RESPONSIBILITY TO LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH AND INFORM YOU ABOUT ITS BREED AND ITS GENETICS.

If you can't take the time to research a dog breed before you get one, JUST DON'T GET ONE.

If you have already made this mistake, why don't you save some face and admit your mistake instead of trashing an entire breed and trying to pass lies off as facts.  Because do you know what happens when you do this?  Can you guess?  It makes you look like a .....*drum roll please*....

DUMBASS.

My neighbors just got a pitbull and I don't think they are responsible enough to have one.  I'm scared to death to let my child outside without me now because there is a breach in the fence and they NEVER have this dog on a leash.   I love dogs, but I am afraid of certain breeds around my son or any small child....Rottwielers, certain types of pit bulls and Chows to name a few.   Unfortunately,  I think the majority of pitbull owners I've seen get them because of their reputation to be aggressive and they have them as some sort of status symbol.  And then they don't even take care of the dog.  I hate stupid pet owners.

Well...there are a good amount that get pit bulls for that reason, but there's lots of nice families who have pit bulls too.  Unfortunately since they are responsible owners who don't have problems with their dogs, you never hear about them.  Does the dog just run the neighborhood?  If so you should call AC, your town probably has leash laws.

It doesn't run the neighborhood but the breach in the fence goes into my backyard.  My neighbor is working on fixing it.  My dog is a Shih/Tzu/Pom mix, and was the runt of his litter so he's very small and one of those "yippy" dogs.  Their dog would eat him for a snack!  I don't let my dog in the backyard, even when the fence was fixed unless he's on a runner/lead.  He's so tiny, he could get under the fence if he wanted to!  Even with my tiny, little dog, I NEVER leave him around my child alone.  Shih-Tzu's can be very aggressive towards children.  The difference is that a bite from a Shit-Tzu vs. one from a pit bull would be apples and oranges.  Not that the little ones don't hurt, my dog has bitten me playfully and it really did hurt!  I never leave any dog around my child unless I'm there to supervise.   I agree that there are a lot of people who genuinely love pitbulls too...my friend Scott rescued one and she's a very good dog and loves people.  She is rarely aggressive towards other dogs, but is  aggressive towards small kids at times though.

I am a nice family with pit bulls, I am responsible! I knew full on what I was getting into when I started adopting my armada of dogs! I love other peoples reactions to my pack though, people act like godzillas are attacking and all my dogs want is their walks.

I HATE people who get any pet and do so without doing their research. You wouldnt have a CHILD without doing your homework , so why get a dog , cat , rabbit or flying purple polka dotted wallaby without doing your research. Terriers hunt and have animal aggression , all of them , not just Pit Bulls. Retrievers , retrieve things, rottweilers were originally cart pullers. When your dog does something like hunt and kill a bird , its a pretty fair assesment to say that the dog was following its natural in bred instincts. When a Pit Bulll doesent like your dog or your cat and shows aggression towards it , its fair to say that the dogs in bred , natural dog and animal aggression is showing face. The key with ANY DOG , is knowing what it was BRED FOR, then assessing its DRIVE TO DO SAID THING,  and then to come up with strategies though training and behavioral management to keep these things IN CHECK. THEY WILL NEVER 'GO AWAY' BUT THEY CAN BE MANAGED. (sorry for yelling , sometimes its the only way to get your point across on here).

I know what every single one of my 5, yes 5 dogs triggers are. I know what they can and cant handle . I know how to keep their behaviors in line and under control , and I know what each dog needs to avoid , so they dont get themselves into trouble. I also assess each foster dog that comes into my home for the same things, so that we know and the adoptive owner knows what the dog can and cant handle , and so that we can make sure the dog is being place in the right home for the dogs temperment and needs. For example , my dog Logan, cant handle going to pet stores, so we have come up with an alternative for him, because he likes to go out with us, we take him to home depot and lowes. Its a simple matter of knowing what he cant do and finding an alternative. Any human with half a brain can do it , if you cant , get a professional trainer to help you. Read people , do your homework , and prepare for getting a pet, that way you and said animal can have a long and harmonious life together , and you wont be shocked when your loving pet decides to eat a rat, go after a cat, or go after another dog.

How about the fact that all dogs regardless of breed need actual training?  If you don't know how or don't want to do it, there are trainers out there who can help you!  It doesn't cost as much as a lawsuit, that's for sure, and trainers can help you communicate effectively with your dog and identify potential problems before they turn into real problems.  It's worth it.

You know, I REALLY HATE the way people blame the breed for aggressiveness!!!! I am a dog owner, have been ALL my life and it truly is the way an animal is RAISED that determines it's temperament!!!!  The same can be said for children. If you teach neglect, pain&blood lust that is what a dog is going to learn. But if you teach love, kindness, patience and obedience you will end up with a completely different animal. I own a pit bull. When my oldest daughter was born, I had family members in shock because I let my pit bull near my daughter. They thought I should get rid of my dog just because of the bad rap her breed gets. They thought she would attack my daughter. ( even though she never showed ANYONE ANY aggression in the years we had owned her prior!) Well, no she is a part of my family, always will be,she loves my daughter and younger son and would NEVER hurt them.  By the way, my other dog is a CHOW/LAB and he is just as gentle as my pit bull!! We also own a cat. The cat was adopted before the pit bull and when they were both very young, they would wrestle around and play together. They are still friends. No one was ever made into a "snack".

Neglecting an animal is, truly, akin to neglecting a child. They both depend on you for food, drink, protection from the elements and to learn right from wrong.

I really could go on but I won't as I have been told by my doctor to reduce my stress for the health of my baby and myself, but I could not read this and NOT respond.

~Responsible people are a rare breed these days, PLEASE SAVE THEM SO THEIR NUMBERS CAN INCREASE!~

I love pit bulls so I hope you didn't think I was putting down the breed.  The potential for animal aggression is just a breed trait.

So true.  That is why I only have small dogs with short hair, I know that I am not a large, hairy dog owner (well, I as an owner am kinda hairy and large, but I won't own large hairy dogs;-)).  I love large dogs, all dogs for that matter, but I just know my limitations.

My mom is one of those...sigh. We got a lab one time and she gave it away to a friend with a farm because the lab wouldn't stop digging. Imagine that. At least she gave her to someone rather than taking her to the pound I guess. We'd love to have a pit, but where we live it would probably get stolen :(

The same is true of all animals... if you are getting a pet, research it... or do yourself and the pet a favor.. don't get it.
