I don't know if anyone has seen this movie...or read the book. If you haven't, I suggest that you do.
I'd say it is a 'tear jerker', but for me it wasn't. I did get choked up at several times. But in the end, I was filled with so much....rage and disgust, that tears were not possible.
I don't suggest you see this film because I want you to feel like I did. But rather to remember. Remember a time when you weren't alive, but many others were, if only briefly. A time that has marked tainted our history.
There are people who say this did not happen. There are people that swear something like this could never happen again. They are wrong. Our world is filled with hate. We, as a people, push kindness, love, acceptance, and celebrating our differences. But our actions speak much louder than words. We don't treat others as we wish to be treated. We don't love our fellow human being. We despise them. Because they are different? Because *someone* must be to blame? It doesn't matter. What matters is that we change our actions, so that THIS history....is NEVER....repeated!
If you are reading this and thinking, "Maybe it should happen, ______ people should be wiped off of this planet", then I want you to consider something. What about you? Do you get that? What about you? There is something, undoubtedly, different about YOU. What if THAT is what causes the hate that pushes people to extinguish you and others like you?
It could be race, religion, beliefs, economic status, anything really.
Because hate does not exist in only one. It spreads. And it does so much faster than kindness.
I don't expect things to change based on this journal. I am no one important. No one who is 'worthy' of being listened to. But I do expect my actions to be noticed. By myself, my God, my child, and every other person that I touch. And maybe, just maybe, that kindness will catch, and the hate will be extinguished.
