You know what's scary? Organizing. I started this process in my home about two weeks ago. I've been slowly going through drawers, cabinets, boxes and closets trying to make better use of the resources I already own. In my spice cabinet, I found six containers of partially used red pepper. What a waste of space and money! The thing that I've found scary is that I have so much extra clutter filling my cabinets that I never, ever use. As a result, I can't find things that I need. This leads to going out and buying stuff that I already have. It's a slow process but very worth the time. I'm slowly de-cluttering my home which is slowly making my life more simple and less stressful.
I asked my husband to take my last remaining credit card and cancel it about two weeks ago (about the time I started de-cluttering). I'm suddenly watching my spending more carefully. It's a really satisfying feeling.
Small changes are said to add up to large life changes. I wasn't happy with the job I was doing as a stay at home mom. I felt like I was overspending and not using my time very well. I used to be really good at shopping garage sales and making our money go further. Somewhere along the way, I lost the Big Picture. I forgot how important it is to conserve and spend carefully. I forgot how vital it is to make good use of the things I have on hand.
I still have a long way to go, but I think I'm finally headed in the right direction. It feels good. It feels positive :)
