Mk, you know who you are. And now, so does everyone else. Teehee.
You believed in me when I didn't think I could EVER quit smoking.
For those who don't know, it was a matter of life and death for me to quit smoking. (That's up to speculation according to individual beliefs.) But I believe it.
I heard a voice one night when I was sleeping. It clearly said, "if you don't quit smoking, you're going to die in 4 years." I knew God was talking to me. I didn't know if he meant a spiritual or physical death either, but my pastor brought up a very good point when I asked him about it one night... he simply said, "what difference does it make?"
I tried and had several failed attempts in quitting. It took me nearly the entire 4 years to finally get it right. I cut it close. I was discouraged and I remember asking a local friend to make bible quizzes for me (long story short....) but it was supposed to help me quit. She was hesitate to do it for me because she didn't believe I would quit and so she didn't want to waste her time. I told MK about it in conversation (who lives thousands of miles away from me) and she didn't think twice in saying, "I'll do it."
She wasn't worried about whether or not her time would be wasted. It wasn't about the cost for her. It was about doing all she could to help me. My possible failure was irrelevant. But THREE words said to me, "I believe in you."
I ended up quitting with the help of Chantix. But just a few, simple words of faith was enough to keep me from becoming completely discouraged (after failure after failure.) It was enough to make me try again and not give up. It was enough to know that some one cared, and I didn't want to let her down.
Remember your words when speaking to others. You can build some one up or tear them down in just a few, simple words. Words are powerful. Words are your power tools, and your mouth is the air compressor.
Will you repair and build homes with encouragement, or tear them down with ugly words? Is it REALLY worth getting that LAST word in, even if you KNOW you're right? Is your pride more important than the salvation of others? What kinds of messages do you send to others just within this cafe? Do you leave replies that make others feel encouraged or do you get them mad, upset, stressed out, frusterated...etc...just to prove your point? Is it really worth it? Do you feel better about yourself when you go to bed knowing you got your point across at any cost, or when you go to bed knowing you've encouraged some one today? I am still a work in progress myself. But I want to do all I can to be an encourager and not a discourager. Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all than to get a point across.
I've been smoke free since November 23rd, 2007.
As of today, May 27th, 2009,

THANKS MK!

I like what your Pastor said, "What's the difference?" Our Pastor once said, "Smoking won't make you go to hell, it just makes you smell like you've already been there." ;-D
