I have figured out a way to get some fresh raw kale into my children :) WOOHOOO!!! So here's our yummy recipe.. I am sure there are plenty of other ones out there, but this is how we do it for now and if you have your favorite, do share!
We like to use organic ingredients, especially when it comes to things like greens and berries - those are the ones that are the worst about keeping the chemicals even after being washed. We are lucky enough to have a small organic farm very close to us and the prices are very reasonable. You also don't have to use cow's milk. I think it would be mighty yummy with almond or rice, or even sesame milks!
SO..
1 big leaf of kale

1 large or 2 small bananas
3 strawberries
2 cups of milk

Blend

Enjoy :)

Pictures are a cortesy of my older children. They love taking pictures and if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have any pictures of myself at all :) My hubby totally stinks at taking pictures *roll eyes* but that's another story :)

Not at all. I tried other greens and I could so taste it but kale is allright. I didn't try spinach yet.
Cool, I will try that recipe. I fed my husband a kale smoothie, and he said, "Why are we drinking lawn clippings?" lol The one I made didn't have milk... I will try that, or yogurt maybe.
Why do you use kale as your green of choice?
When you cook kale, how do you make it? I sauteed it with garlic and butter, and it was pretty tough. Is there a better way?
oh, that's just hillarious :) LOL... Did he like it though? If he didn't see the color?
I know everybody on conscious parenting does it with water.. I dunno, one step at a time for us :) I am just not ready to go all the way, you know? :)
From what I gather kale is even better than spinach when it comes to being a super food.. and I tried other greens from Jessicas and bleh.. it tasted yucky..
I cook it the same way plus some lime juice and it has to be really cooked but it is still not as soft as spinach. I usually mix it in with rice - then you don't feel it as much. I also always put it in soups or beans. It cooks rather nicely in there.
We'll be trying it with hemp milk probably since we don't eat dairy. Kale is one of THE best sources of calcium you can get ! :)
We buy our hemp milk at Whole Foods just because it's cheaper but Hy-Vee I know has it too...
we have Whole Foods in town. I am so checking it out :) I wish we could just make it though :))) LOL
