So I'm writing this because I am fed up with the way the term "Nazi" is thrown around in this website. Although what this term means is someone who has a dedication to something, it is a term that is derogatory and as a person of Jewish decent (though I am a Christian by choice) I am intensely disturbed by having recently been called a "lacto Nazi". Ironic, no? Okay, so I have a dedication to my daughters health and well being. If that makes me a nazi, so be it. I would rather be known as someone who cares too much for my daughters health then as someone who settles for what is "just fine". Yes I would like for more mothers to understand that although the FDA allows for infant formula to be put on grocery shelves even they don't recommend it! But I have NEVER pushed breastfeeding unto another mother. The fact is that infant formula is a product that was originally put on the the shelves to give nourishment to infants who's mothers had either passed or had medical reasons to not breastfeed, not so that mothers could just avoid breastfeeding all together. Yes, I do understand that there are mothers out there (in this day in age) that work to put food on the table for their families for x reasons and I have respect for these women. I have even more respect though, for the women who do NOT use work as an excuse to not give their children breast milk and PUMP. I never though I would actually sit down and write a journal about this, but it is just ridiculous how grown women are acting on this site when it comes to breastfeeding and formula feeding. Honestly, to each their own. But when it comes to women who are formula feeding, you need to stop being so defensive. It's almost like you KNOW that you are giving your child second hand food and are ready to jump at anyone who dares feel sorry for them.
Recently, my husband pointed something out. With the outbreak of the swine flu the CDC and WHO recommended masks and everyone ran to stores to buy masks to protect themselves; but the WHO also says that human breast milk directly from the breast should be the first food choice for infants, second is mothers milk in a bottle, third is another mothers milk in a bottle, and lastly the fourth option is infant formula yet no one heads this.
So if caring about my child's health and caring about other children's health makes me a nazi so be it. So many women on here talk so much about research and blah blah blah but when it comes to breastfeeding research is either done on illegitimate websites or avoided all together. And in the end, people need to stop using this derogatory term all together, it is rude and immature.

Anyone who doesn't like something these days is a nazi. I'm a breastfeeding nazi cause I know formula is unnatural and would never consider it. I'm a carseat nazi cause I follow safety guidelines instead of minimal laws. It's just something assholes say to make themselves feel better. Making others look extremists or perfectionists makes their own imperfections and ill choices easier to defend I guess.

I agree...I shudder everytime I see the word Nazi used....How would they feel if I started calling them Formula Nazis?
At the end of the day though, you just need to let comments like that roll off your back. Breast is best. Period. You are giving your child the best you can and nobody can take that away from you. I don't push my beliefs on anyone either...but I am always here to offer support and advice to a nursing mother....but only if they want it. If that makes me a Nazi, then so be it!
