My husband is in the Army National Guard and has been for 4 years.  Lately our now ex-friend has been wearing the bottom of an Army ACU uniform, just the pants.  He is no way related to the Guard, Army or any other military function, branch, ect.  We found this very offensive because people have died wearing that uniform for what they beleive in.  The reason we found this offensive is not only because my husband is in the Army, but because this guy had no remorse, if that is the right word.  I guess regard would be a better word, but he had no feeling that that was in any way offensive.  Please give me your opinion on this, but no bashing please!

May. 30, 2009 at 11:24 AM I used to be a rule that only people in the forces could wear any part of the uniform . I doubt it has changed!

I agreee with you abour people not being in the military shouldn't wear the uniform. My husband is in the Army and he feels the same way. We live in Columbus, GA (stationed at Ft. Benning) and a lot of people, non-military, wear army fatigues. They wear them to go hunting or whatever, but they actually sell ACU's to anyone down here, so there is nothing the Army can do about it for now. Hopefully it will change.

Okay when we were kids my brother and his friends would go to the thrift  store to get bdus and anything army they could find. One of his friends came over to the house in like a flak jacket of some sort and had sewn patches {belonging to someone else} on to this jacket. My mom and dad have both served and this boy was stopped at our door and not allowed in while wearing this. He refused to take it off and he was never allowed at our house again. We were then sat down and we learned the meaning of respect. Whether or not we approved of the army these were the men and women who fought and lost their lives so we could enjoy our lives the way we do. So needless to say I agree that this is disrespectful to the nth degree and obviously his momma never taught him about respect.  HMMMMM I wonder if thats the boy who's not allowed at my house? LOL

I agree that he shouldn't wear it. I come from a long line of veterans. Did you explain to him that its offensive? To me it's the same as being wearing a cops uniform when your not a cop. The uniform needs to be earned even though ppl dress up as cops and other professions on Halloween.

If he doesn't respect your wishes or try to understand your point of view then he shouldn't be around you. Some people just have no regard for respect or honor.

Thanks for your opinions!  It has been quite a while and he has really grown up!  He is now getting married and wants to have kids.  He did admit to us that he will try to be more respectful around us since he knows how we feel about disrespecting troops.  My husband is now deploying and life has gotten a lot more hectic and he has supported us through this.
