I am a space shuttle nut. No matter how many times I see this it never gets old. Not much of a post, I know, but I had to share.
The space shuttle Atlantis recently landed in California due to bad weather in Florida. They don't like to do this because then there is the added cost of bringing the shuttle back to Florida strapped to a 747.

I have to show my preschooler this photo after I pick him up. That piggyback shot is awesome! We've been putting on our calendar the dates of Shuttle lift-offs and landings. My son really LOVES watching those! And it's great that he can watch videos of them repeatedly on the NASA website.
Eon's ago, when I was yet a kid myself, I remember my dad (he was an engineer) regaling us, his family, with tales of this incredible new space ship. It would take off like a rocket but land like an airplane.
We thought he was kidding! Turns out, the company he worked for made some of the shuttle parts. It was really cool that he was in on it from the beginning.
Oh, and I love watching the launches and landings. Incredible sight.
we heard the sonic boom when it landed. scared the crap out of me at first lol
Coltsfan.... I did not know about the boom!!! I had to google it just now in order to figure out if you were for real! I did find numerous youtubes for this and I have to say I am amazed. That is soooo cool.
And you are so cool for teaching me something today. This blog ROCKS. I learn so much doing this :)

Two of my husband's students went to see the space shuttle take off when they were at a conference in Naples in May. I really want to go someday! They said it was fantastic. I need to ask them for pictures of it.
Anybody else out there ever seen it take off or land?
