If you sew or quilt you most likely have had a case of fabric flu. It is that overwhelming desire to just have fabric. Sometimes it's contagious to other quilters or sewer's- but children and husbands definitely can't catch it.
With fabric flu you just love fabric. Love the vibrant colors or the subtle pattern. You can appreciate the weight of a fabric or a unique characteristic that makes it perfect for a project. Often the words "oh that is cool" or "That would be perfect for a..." come out of your mouth when you see and touch a new fabric.
Of course this little bug also makes you part with your money for no good reason except you know you have to have it. Buying a yard (or 10) here and there just because it you love something about that woven bliss.
Symptoms:
- aimless wandering in fabric stores or on-line looking at fabric (most of the time without the intent to buy)
- overwhelming desire to touch the fabric and test the feel and weight
- a "hoarding" complex that is masked with the excuse "I'm building a stash"
- repeated tries to have conversations with others who do cannot have the flu (see children and husbands above)
- Slight hesitation to actually cut a fabric if the supply of the print is limited
- a pile of projects and fabric that grows faster that completed
- tunnel vision with fabric in the store making you forget the two notions you actually went to get
- often catch yourself staring into space and mumbling, for instance "if I have 2 yards and I cut here and fold it this way instead of..."
- buying fabric without an intended project
If you have these symptoms I'm sorry- there is absolutely no cure. Just enjoy the fabric and sew :)
