i breast fed my last ds until he was put into the hospital .. it was deemed that my breast milk contained milk and soy protein .. which was inturn killing him =( we (the dr.s and me and my hubby ) made the choice to switch him to formula .. which turned out to be his lifesaver , because i could not maintain my self on the diet that i would have to had followed which in turn would have harmed me , to the point it would have harmed him .... granted this article is not on the same subject .. i found it interesting to read ..... since breast is supposedly best ...
Is breast milk always best?
All pediatricians agree that breastfeeding is the best milk to give a baby so it comes as a surprise to read a new study, published in a recent issue of the British Medical Journal, that describes a possible link between breastfeeding and heart disease.
The research was undertaken because of earlier research that showed men who were born at the turn of the century and who were breast fed for at least one year had a higher incidence of heart disease 60 or 70 years later when compared to men in the general population.
In the current study conducted at the Cambridge Maternity Hospital, researchers attempted to determine if breastfeeding or the length of breastfeeding had any effect on the the stiffness of the participants' arteries and their cholesterol levels.
Results of the study indicated that there was no link between breastfeeding and any of the risk factors for developing heart disease except one: both men and women in the who had been breasted for at least four months had stiffer arteries than those who were not breasted. In addition, the longer a participant was breasted, the stiffer his or her arteries became.
No one is ready to change the current strong recommendations for breastfeeding as a result of this study, especially since there are many health benefits to nursing. However, additional studies are in progress to try to learn how long a mother should breastfeed her child before potential side effects occur.
