I was asked to participate in the Juicy Juice Influencer program with CafeMom... and received my coupons in the mail. Since we had to run to the store to grab some more milk- I picked some of the juice up as well. We tried the first variety today with our lunch- thus, my product review has been provided. :0)
Today,
we tried the Juicy Juice Brain Development Grape Juice. Overall, I am
not entirely impressed. For the most part- $2.99 for 33.8 fluid ounces
is not much of a bargain. For us- it equaled 2 sippy
cups and 4 small kid cups of juice. The serving suggestions on the back
state a serving is 4 fluid ounces... and only 8 total servings in the
product. Word of caution- the pouring spout pulls out of the container
easily... :0)
I found the juice in the juice isle at our local grocer. I believe it should be in the baby section- as it can be misleading otherwise. The claim is that it includes DHA- Building blocks for brain development! Yes, that entices me to give it to my children- however the product then goes on to tell you (in the small print) that this is only for children under the age of 2.
My eldest child liked it, but my middle son was upset because he picked out the grape and it tasted more like flavored apple juice. This is not surprising- since Apple Juice is the number 1 ingredient. We might have had better luck in the flavor department had we stuck with just Apple. :0) The bonus on this, however, is that it does not stain like regular grape juices.
The product does NOT tell you that it should be avoided if you are strict vegetarians/vegans or allergic to Tuna. Listed on the ingredients list is FISH OIL. The source of Omega 3 oils (the good stuff, remember.) They do specify that the fish oil comes from Tuna. :0)
Thank you Cafemom- for the coupons. This isn't something that I would have tried with out them- due to the price. However, I am fully resolved that this isn't the best product for my family. We still have the Immunity juice to try- and will give that a review once we've had a chance to drink it.

Comments:
I'm just gonna keep my mouth nice and shut about their DHA, especially if it's Merck's LifeDHA like I expect it is... or that for kids under 2, the best source of ACTUAL DHA is breastmilk, they shouldn't be drinking much juice anyway, but this culture frowns on kids getting DHA from the natural source but can advertise a sugared juice...
Yeah, I'll stop, LOL.
Well, that too. But I was trying to give reasons to hate the PRODUCT, not just the company who makes the crap. :D
my grocery store didn't have it (winco) so i am going to try somewhere else. but, i don't give my kids juice. maybe once to twice a month we have orange juice for breakfast. we do A LOT of water. i still would like to research artificial DHA and ARA before i start giving this to my kids (who are all over 2). i think i will make homemade popsicles with it as a treat rather than provide it with a meal.
Thanks. I wasn't sure I wanted to buy the stuff to begin with, but I think will avoid it now. We do drink some juice, but not enough to make that price worth the effort for us.

(Oops, it's Martek's LifeDHA, not Merck.)
I'm a stickler about DHA, and tuna is not the best source for it. Tuna is one of those fish that contain mercury... stick with Artic Cod or Krill. I am curious to see what the added amount is as well. My son gets approx 200mg (he is 3 1/2) and I am appalled when I see Disney (and other companies) strokin' their DHA lables and they barely contain 100 mcg... that's 0.1mg... what a waste of time and such propaganda!
Thanks for your review...and thanks so much for the link to the DHA report! I can certainly use that! :o)
My kids liked it. We were not chosen on here for influencers but I was chosen to have a Juicy Juice House party from Houseparty.com We got the brain development and immunity and tons of goodies to give out from Juicy Juice

I just got a message the other day that our coupons have been mailed. Now I will take extra care to read the labels because what is the reason that it is intended for children under age two? I do give my son DHA supplements, so I can't imagine that serving him some juice with added DHA would be harmful to him. I'll be interested in seeing how much DHA is in one serving. His supplements contain 200 mg.
