i have SEVERE excema. not just your run of the mill dry skin that itches and sometimes cracks. mine covers my body and cracks all the time, everywhere. i went to the pharmacy to get a rx refill for my cream i use. its a corticosteriod.
they told me that i could not get a refill until the 16th cuz my insurance said that it was too soon. my original rx was written for 480 grams of medicine every 20 days. thats alot of medicine and more than i could use in 20 days. when my insurance kicked in it would only pay for 80 grams at a time. dont pull out your calculator, its 1/6 of my original rx. so instead of having 2 refills i now had 12.
heres where it gets good. some genius forgot to bring his calculator to work when they had to change my info in the computer. they changed it so i can only get 80 grams every 30 days. who divides 20 by 6 and gets thirty. now i realize i didnt pick my rx up every 20 days because it lasted my aout 2 months.
now if you do the math on that thats 80 grams every 10 days not 30. knowing that my rx was only $12 out of pocket i asked if i could just pay for it out of pocket. apparently my insurance does not allow that/ WTF!!!???
so i asked the kid behind the counter if there was anything that could be done because i needed my meds. he said he could call the helo desk and see if he could get the time changed in the computer then the insurance would cover it. well that was thursday. ive heard nothing. i tried calling yesterday and i got put on hold for 20 minutes to be told that the one who called wasnt there and no one left a note saying anything so sorry they couldnt help me and to call back today in the afternoon.
i havent slept well because i itch. typing hurts but i had to get it out. if anyone knows any home remedies for excema please let me know. ive tried just about eery lotion kown to man and they all make it worse. ive also tried burts bees hand salve. anything creative like olive oil and vamilla extract (i have no idea just an example) please let me know. im dying here. also if anyone knows how to deal with getting my rx early, id appreciate the input.

My mom used to have it really really bad, but she does not have it at all now. She became a lifeguard about 12 years ago, and with that came a nice tan. Since then, she has not had it. It was very bad, itching, bleeding... itching while bleeding. You just have to be careful not to burn. I know that is not a quick fix, but it could start improving over the course of a week or so. I am not sure how fake tanning would work (I assume the same) because my mom was out in natural sunlight.
you know now that i think about it its never as bad when ive been in the sun. i never made that connection before. thank you!
Yes, get in the sun. I have it in the winter on my arms, but it's gone already and it's only june 7th.
little sun, not crazy, and don't use anything to help it along.
Also, my dermatologist told me to not take hot showers, and as soon as I'm out put on moisturizer, and the wetter my skin is the better. I mean , not dripping wet but, just pat yourself dry and then put it on. It's uncomfortable for a while because you're really greasy, but it's the best time. I just Eucerin- the cream that comes in a pot- not a lotion. also Aquaphor which is really just petroleum jelly. but that's really greasy.
If you can get your hands on some shea butter- real pure shea butter, not something with it in it, but the real stuff- it's really good. Expensive though. here's a link:

It comes in a jar and when you open it up it looks like chunks of soap. but you just grab a piece and start rubbing it in and your body temperature melts it down to an oil. It's good. I do this when my skin is really itchy.
You can get cheaper shea butter, but I don't know about the quality, I've never tried them.
Good luck. Sorry you're so itchy.
You can get coconut oil in a jar natural food section in my grocery store- to cook with or slather on... good luck... Aveeno makes an anti-itch cream that has Calamine in it- only thing that works for me when I get poison oak bad. SO SORRY to hear of your itchies...
I am a beekeeper and make a hand/skin salve that I sell to many people with skin conditions for whom medicine has failed. One of my biggest success stories is with a man who's dr actually gave up and advised to super-glue the cracks on his hands shut. After a week of my salve (secret ingredients but based on natural straight from the hive beeswax) he began to heal and is very close to symptom free.
I know you said you tried Burt's Bees but I use a different type of oil in my salve and mine is 100% natural,no fragrances or colors or anything you couldn 't eat with a spoon if you wanted to.( Very important for households with small children).Message me if you'd like and I'll make you a jar and send it to you,no charge. It just might work for you.
For anyone else interested I charge $20 for a cold cream size jar,and all jars are made to order, all from the wax from my own bees.

thanks everyone for your suggestions! im gonna try everything i can get my hand on. i htink the kicker was last night when a little boy asked my how i burned myself so bad. lol. its time to get it under control, thanks for the suggestions!
i was told that putting a humidifier in the room around you to help keep your skin from drying out and taking oatmeal baths and keep cool, use soaps without lye in it, drink plenty of water, unsented lotions, aloe, after shower/bath dont dry completely dry/ dry damp and stop the more you can keep your skin moist without lotions the better.
