Most women shudder at the use of the 'C' word, saying they can cope with most swear words - but not that one!
But since when did that 'C' word become 'Caesarean'?
I see post after post, journal after journal, talking about Caesareans like they are a dirty word.
I had to have a caesarean for my first delivery and now, at 24 weeks, I have to decided on whether to VBAC or to go the elective route.
I just have to say - not all decisions for a c section are unnecessary. Not all are due to 'lazy' mums who couldn't be bothered to push.
When discussing this with my consultant he told me that many women focus on the way to give birth rather than the outcome. The thing to celebrate is not the hours of pushing or the neatness of your scar - but the birth of a healthy baby which is entirely possible no matter which way you birth.
Now, at 24 weeks, this is what I am going to try and focus on. My healthy, beautiful baby girl who has arrived in this world safely - either way!

Thank you for this post. I totally agree. The way the moms talk about C-sections makes me feel horrible that I chose to have a second one. My decision was made for the health of my child. My first labor lasted 3 days. I was on Pitocin the whole time. They finally decided to do a C-section because if I did progress at that point, I would be too exhausted to complete the delivery.
My son ended up being Autistic. I don't know if my drawn out labor was the cause or something else. I didn't get to enjoy my son the first week after he was born. My body was that worn out.
With my daughter, we did a scheduled C-section. Both of my OBs agreed this was the best decision. It was a great choice. My daughter is healthy and had no developmental issues. I was able to enjoy her from the moment she was born. It didn't take me a week to recover from the ordeal. I bounced right back from the C-section. It didn't hold me back from anything. The only down-side was not being able to drive for 6 weeks.
I never felt guilty about it until I started reading all these negative posts from moms about C-sections. Thank you again for this post.
