Today I took Taegen in for a checkup. The pedi, who is REALLY wonderful and has never said anything rude about our UC or vaccine/test refusals, just wanted a follow up which didn't bother me, I wanted to ask about her stomach issues and possible thrush anyways.
The appointment started out normal, and good. She was weighed and is now 10 lbs 6 oz! Holy crapola LOL. She was only 9 lbs 3 oz a week ago!
We go to the room and the he checks her mouth, no signs of thrush and looks at the rash and agrees that it's heat rash which is what I thought. It's really bad around her neck and spread to her chest, but I think it's because she's got a lot of rolls haha.
Well, she gets fussy and he can't listen to her heart so he sends me to the LC, who is AWESOME. I wanted to see her about the possible thrush, and our nursing issues. She helped out a lot. Turns out the latch wasn't as good as it should be, and we do NOT have thrush! AWESOME.
Taegen falls asleep, so back to the pedi's room we go.
He finishes the exam, and she's asleep in my arms. He listens to her heart, for a really long time, and even listens through her back too. I was wondering what was up, this seemed too long.
He found a murmur.
So off to get an EKG and a chest x ray.
Taegen woke up for the EKG, she would NOT cooperate. The nurse managed to get her blood pressure readings (from both arms and legs) and sent us to x ray.
I NEVER want to see her get a chest xray again! I was in tears. It's like a torture chamber. I felt so bad for her, and since they didn't get a proper reading the first time, she was put in it AGAIN... I was with her the whole time, but felt so miserable for her. I just snuggled her when it was over with, both times, and said "I am sorry"... it was terrible.
After words I nursed her, and she fell asleep and we went to try the EKG again. Didn't work. All the stickers were on, and she woke up and was miserable, but who can blame her! So I nursed again, and a female nurse came in and started setting up. Taegen fells asleep while nursing so I held her, and rotated her enough to get all the stickers on and we finally got it taken care of.. thank god!
The x rays came back, and everything looks good. The doctor believes this will clear up on it's own, it's not in the valves of the heart, but an artery. He says that it's because she's so compressed in her body her lungs kink the artery when she breathes. SO we go back on the 30th to double check and listen. We will make sure it doesn't get worse, cause any problems.
I am scared to death, even though he's very positive. She's my baby, it worries me!
It was a bad day. I cried when I got to the car... it was too much for me.
To top it all off, as I was walking to my car, and stepping off a curb, my foot caught something and I fell strait to my knees, scraping the right one pretty bad. It hurts a lot, and it ripped a few layers of skin off :(
Here's an example of the chest x ray contraption! But imagine a much shorter, and less calm 2 week old. I had to hold her hands up, and her face fit in the opening. She was miserable :(

You sound a bit hormonal too.! Hugs ! Tommorrow will be a better day for you!
Aww. I'm sorry it was a yucky day. I just wanted to tell you that my third child had that...the murmur, and she is now 5 and there is no sign it was ever even there. Hugs!!!
thanks for the hugs! I am sure it's ok, and everything, but it's just stressful you know? Being a momma and all, it worries me!
oh my goodness I had no idea they did the x-ray like that! Poor thing :( Sounds like you need to just rest and relax tonight!
Don't worry Shanna! (Haha..and remember to tell me not to worry when Johanna has surgery on the 23rd..right?! haha) You did all you could and you're a great mom!!! I have a heart murmur and I'm a fairly healthy 23 year old!!! :) Don't worrryyyy!!!!!
Oh yuck! Xavy has had a couple chest xrays, but they used a seat with straps and it wasnt wires..that does not look comfy! Medical procedures are always hard to put our kids through =/ Here's hoping it goes away right away!
BIG HUGS!
I have to say...I'm a little irritated with your pedi. I'm sure this was a "just in case" thing, but when we were in the hospital with Naomi the pedi heard a murmur. He said it was pretty normal for infants to have a slight murmur and it usually clears up on its own. I'm so sorry she and you had to go through that. Even with the mess of a situation we were in with Naomi they did not make us do that!

Holy crap! I'm sorry you had such a bad day. Yay for no thrush and help from an LC. Try not to worry too much about the murmur (yeah right, you're a mom), maybe things will start getting a little better.
