All in all, it was a good, informative appointment, and we came away with a lot.
He has lots of environmental allergies (from worst to least severe):
CockRoaches,
Trees (Virginia Liva Oak, Pecan, Box Elder, American Elm), Dogs, mites,
Grass (KY blue, orchard, redtop, timothy, sweet vernal, meadow fescue,
perennial rye), Plantain-Sorrel Mix (some kind of weed), Nettle and
Goldenrod.
We are to continue with Zyrtec as needed (currently
he's doing great without it). She didn't say much about the dog, and
clearly the dogs at home don't bother him. In fact, I firmly believe
that removing the dogs from the home would cause more emotional harm to
him than provide physical benefit, but I digress.
Onto the food stuff:
Egg: <3mm
Cow's Milk: 0
Wheat: 0
Soybean: 0
Peanut: <3mm
Fish: 3mm
Shellfish: 0
Treenut: 3mm
She
said that anything less than 5mm isn't an allergy, but the fact that he
reacted to 4 things, even minimally still concerns me. She didn't say
not to feed it though, and stressed they aren't allergies. Perhaps
we'll SLOOOOOOOOOOOOWLY ease into things in very minimal amounts,
except eggs, which affect him behaviorally.
We're still to avoid
all milk and soy, until he has his food challenge, which he's STILL on
the waiting list for. We've waited 9 months all ready, who knows how
much longer. She also highly recommended we get him in with GI so they
can definitively rule out or confirm Celiac. He had a negative blood
test a year ago, but had all ready been gluten free for 6 months, so
who knows how accurate that really was. Anyway, she said she can't
explain the reactions away with food allergy, and being primarily GI
symptoms, he should see GI to have things looked at. So, off to add
specialist #4 to his care team. We see her again in a year and,
hopefully, things will be the same or better than they were yesterday.
