Two days ago, some guy leans over my fence to try and pet my dog. He obviously must be blind, because I have signs posted all over that clearly state, "Beware of Dogs", "No Trespassing", and "Do not touch animals". If I saw these signs I would take them serious. Wouldn't you? Well, lo and behold, he did it anyway. And, of course, my puppy, (11months old), jumped up and tried to take a bite out of his shoulder, literally. Well, I get a call from my neighbor telling me to get home, because there is two cop cars parked in front of my house. So, I rush home to see what the problem is. They tell me that one of my five dogs has bit someone. But, they don't know which dog it was. So, I asked them, "What are you planning on doing?" They asked if my dogs have had their shots, I told him they all did. They even got papers and tags and licenses. I informed the officers that I keep very good care of my animals, they are a part of the family. Well, the officers wanted to take both of my male pups to get tested for rabies. I told them it would not be necessary. I have the papers right here that say they are rabies free. Well, the one officer was very belligerent with me, and said they were gonna take the dogs with or without my permission. I said, fine, I don't want to argue with you and end up in jail. He said, that's more like it. (very sarcastically) I prepared to gather my two dogs up for the animal control officer to take to get tested. I asked them if it was gonna cost me to get my dogs back, they said "no". Well, the next day, I called animal control, and they tried to say it was gonna cost me $200 per dog to get them back. What do I look like, a fool?! You specifically told me yesterday that it would not cost me nothing. Now, you want me to pay for the test you wanted to do on my dogs that I told you I had proof that were rabie-free. I now have 8 days left to try and come up with $400 dollars I don't have to try and get back my dogs.
They didn't even give me a report for this matter or a card with the officers name and number on it. I had to go down there today and wait three hours for them to write me up a report and give me a copy. What BS for real. They were suppose to do this crap two days ago.
None of this would have happened if the guy would have paid attention to the signs I have clearly posted on my gates, trees and an actual sign posted in the front yard. They did not arrest him for being in the wrong. They said the signs are a warning to others that the dogs are a possible hazard. That is not the case at all, I simply don't want everybody and their neighbor to touch my dogs. It's simple respect for ones' yard and the things in it.
My kids and I too, are devastated over this. We have had them since they were born. The one brown dog they took looked similar to my female shepherd dog, which was her pups. She too, is a little sad. She is not as playful as she used to be, she used to play with care-bear (which was taken). They were play buddies. They hung together and slept together and even ate together. He was just learning some new tricks too. The other one was, rusty (which was taken). He was a loner and a cuddle bud. He only came to you for love and food, otherwise, he always kept to himself.
I really hate that this man did follow some simple signs warning him not to touch my dogs. Now, I have to be cautious when I leave my other three dogs outside to play or even to use the bathroom. I feel that my rights were violated in some form or matter. I just ask that you keep me and my family in your prayers and that some how if it is meant to be, I will be able to get my other dogs out of the pound before they become police property.
