Support the Protect our Children Act, currently underfunded and in danger of losing!

I watched the Oprah Winfrey show yesterday afternoon (June 12th, 2009). John Walsh, the man behind America's Most Wanted show, was a special guest. About two decades ago, his  son Adam had been abducted from a department store. Then they found his son's head in a canal in Florida. His body has never been found. After many years, they learned who had done this hideous crime, a man already convicted as a sexual predator.

John Walsh has done so much to find criminals of such hideous crimes of children. He even organized legislature to pass a bill to get these offenders, once out of prison, to get registered in each state, in an attempt to get a national sex offender registry up and running.  Not all states are able to do this because of lack of funding. So these inhumane criminals can easily get out, jump from state to state, and possibly wind up LIVING in YOUR community and once again, target some innocent young child or teenager for his next victim. It could be YOUR kid. Do you want to take such a risk? I don't.

So what he's asking for is a letter sent to your senator to get support for this bill for the next five years. Its in danger of being underfunded and thrown out by congress this summer. His point:  If congress can bail out banks and automakers, certainly they can help our children's safety continue. Granted, the bill may not be perfect in writing, but it's the only hope we got going to protect our children from these monsters.  They are infiltertrating many devices, such as the internet, and recently, even a cell phone by sexual text messages. Kids are trusting. They can easily be persuaded to meet a dangerous crimininal because they think the other person "sounds nice".  Not a good scenario Moms!!

Personally, I feel strongly about this bill. My oldest daughters were sexually abused by their own father, who lives in another state, and is currently serving prison time. If he EVER gets out, then yes, I'd want other people to know about him.  Help this email circulate through Cafemom. Make it popular!
