So this runaway wife has seemingly convinced her husband of the brilliance of her ways!! My husband had a re-kindling of memories of why NY is so much fun and frankly, he's as gung ho as I am to make this bi-coastal thing a reality. From his late evening arrival at the apartment - which was followed by a wonderful late night stroll down eighth avenue to the relatively new Time Warner center, and on to Red Mango, where we met out daughter and her rommate (this so could not happen in LA and be "exciting") to our Saturday runion with old friends and Saturday stroll to Celsea markets....to dinner at Tavern on the Green and a late night walk near the park, to another am stroll on Sunday, breakfast with our daughter (oh, those NY bagels) - he was re-invigorated with the sights and sounds of NY.
Somehow I am and I am not surprised at my hsband's "seeing the light." I guess I thought I would have to work really hard to convince him that my newfound happiness of mine, was really important to even my mental health - after all, we can all work diligently forhours and hours, if we have a sense that when work hours are over, the environment we now get to "play in" is of our choice. Suburba for me has become stale and frankly, lonely, especially since so many of my hours are spent alone writing in a lovely small office that is isolated from any thriving pulse of life. Then there's the house maintenance needs which have become a second profession between phone calls, appointments, folow ups and work on the house itself. There's even the drain of the upkeep of the house, which I know was a source of financial accomplishment, but now has become an empty large house with unbelievable maintenance costs. Well all it took was a lively walk down an ave. where we encountered dogs of all sizes and shapes, people having very loud "private" conversations on their cell phones, trucks and taxis honking, the smell of pretzels, and sweet nuts for my husband to say,"I kind of realize I missed this too."
And so unexpectedly, we found ourselves in a local drugstore buying him full size toiletries, socks, underwear to leave in a space I now made for him in my "runaway apartment." How funny that it's usually a young guy or gal deciding to allow a special friend to leave their toothbrush or have a drawer or shelf in a medicine cabinet designated "for permanent guest." Well, I guess this purchase is a decleration on my husband's part that - "yeah, let's try and make this work. I am on board!!" I'd call it a very blissful anniversary......
