About two months ago my mother got a new puppy. The owner was giving it away at 12 weeks old because it would potty in the house and chew stuff. Idiotic to expect a pup to behave right? So the puppy (Sophie) has been with my mother now, and my mom is now getting fed up. I've tried to give my mother advice. She has crate trained Sophie and she does well in the crate. I've tried to tell my mother that Sophie is not ready to have the run of the house yet. Basset hounds are notorious for being hard to potty train. I did buy a book and clickers for her to start basic obedience. I knew that a Bassets hard head was not going to take to my mothers usual training methods. I've tried to support my mother in every way I can. I've told her to tether Sophie to her and not let her run around the house until she gets a bit older and has better obedience. Problem is, my mother isn't exactly obedient when it comes to my advice.
Perhaps I should get a shock collar for mom? ![]()
So today, mom says she doesn't want a dog that she can't just let run in the house. She's basically giving up because she can't have her way. I warned her Sophie would not be like all the other breeds she's owned. She's use to having easy training. And she's not willing to change her ways to suit Sophie's needs. Honestly, I know I could probably straighten Sophie out and give her the training she requires. But I live in a small apartment, I have one dog and two cats already, and I'm not suppose to have more animals. Though that would probably not be that much of a problem. But I have one foster cat that I got stuck with because no one wanted him, I don't want to get stuck with a dog no one wants either. Sophie is adorable, its just unfortunate that her stupid breeder created her and then dumped her on the first person who walked up to her in Walmart.
Here's a pic of Sophie. The collie is my dog Kota.
Please, if anyone on here is reading this and thinking of breeding their dog, think again! There are too many dogs out there to be adding to our overpopulation of pets.

it takes patience ..... i bought a pekingnese and he at first wanted to pee on the floor then chew my kids toys and bit ankles....so i made a little area for him..a place that has a lot of traffic goin through the house! but i made the area and put up a baby gate so he cant get out...and i take him out every hour....and we dont play rough with him..we only playt with him with his toys....but now he lets me know when he has to potty...when his baby gate falls he..... doesnt leave his area and he doesnt try to bite ankles no more....it take time but its worth it

I hope your mom can gain some perspective and patience! It will be worth it in the end. I'm sorry you are stuck in the middle. Good luck!
