too weird to live, to rare to die

So in a previous post, I stated that my mother found out her birthmom's identity after 48 years of shrouded mystery. Apparently there had been a pile of lies regarding her lifestyle (first claimed that birthmom was sixteen, had mental disorders, unable to care for my mother) which led to relinquishing her parental rights and my mom was handed over to the agency, thus transferred to her adoptive parents. My mom was greatly affected by this knowledge, finally putting a face to this name. Some research on the internet surfaced bio-mom's married name and where she currently lives, and my mom set about to contact her by hand-written letter, informing her of her life, successes in college as of late (my mom just days ago graduated with her Bachelor's of Science degree in Forestry and Wildlife), and the numerous relatives. My mom did so tentatively, worrying that she would respond negatively. In recent years my mother's brother who was also adopted, did the same and received a bad response from his birthmother. This broke his heart, but he felt complete.

But my mom wrote me an email today, stating that her natural mother emailed, enthusiastically answered, wishing for contact and briefly describing her life and family (I have three uncles and an aunt!). We're all very excited for my mother, as she just accomplished one major life goal that she thought she'd never achieve, and now the prospect of meeting people she thought would stay a mystery her entire life.
