For Christmas last year my son Alex received a potty. It talks, sings and has a pretend toilet paper roll and flusher that makes "real" noise. It's quite a sight to behold! when I first introduced him to the new gadget, he was curious even a little excited. He allowed me to take his pants and diaper off to sit on the potty. He was up and down, flushing and discovering. Needless to say he did not go potty in the toilet or the floor as he demanded his diaper be put back on only a few minutes later. I obliged and allowed him to keep playing with the potty with his diaper on. I brought out a potty book, we talked about what your supposed to do. I promised a special treat or event if he would use his new potty. Nothing worked. He liked his potty. He knew how it worked, but he would not for any reason take his diaper off. I think maybe he was afraid that by being nakie we would plop him in the tub for a bath which he hates. Time lapsed and we took the potty from the kitchen and put it in the bathroom where everyone else used the potty. Didn't help a bit in the process of training. It's funny because he will run into the bathroom, sit down and grunt then put the lid down and "flush" toilet. Since his pants are on I'm not actually sure if he is really going or not, it might just be that it is a game to him. But if it is for real, he has a good grasp on the potty concept. The problem is the pants. My plan is to attempt the three day potty training stint. A week to get him hyped up about going (books, movies, talking about it), the day before taking him to buy big boy underwear, then for two days pumping him up with water so he has the urge to go and letting him run free nakie with the potty in plain sight. By the third day he should have a grasp on the concept (if I am good enough at keeping up with him!) and he can wear his big boy undies by the third day (pull ups feel like diapers still so the underwear give him the feeling of accidents so he knows to go to his potty). As we are planning a big trip in the next two months I plan on attempting this come late September. Cross your fingers for me, he'll be 2 and a half years old by then.
