The room has been painted now for about three weeks however the lazy husband aspect of it still continues. (Read more of the Saga in journal 1 and journal 2) The day of the painting I asked my wonderful husband to put the blinds and curtains back up on the window. He said, "Ok, I'll do it later". Come bedtime the blinds and curtains were not up on the window. I go back to my lovely hubby and ask him to come put them up since the room gets too much sunlight in the afternoon and evening and Kyle can't sleep like that. Well... this is what he did....

He put tin foil up on the windows!! TIN FOIL!!! I didn't feel like arguing so I let him do it. Hey, at least it was dark in the room. Very, very dark. I also had trouble with getting him to move the dressers. All 3 of them. I actually ended up moving all of them!! At least they were not very heavy. I can't fault him though, he's been putting in almost 90 hours a week on the job this past month.
Anyway, the room decorating. What I wanted for this room was a toddler and baby friendly area. Something that both boys could share and that both boys could grow into. Kyle is just now getting out of baby stage and moving into toddler hood while Jake is only 2 weeks from being born!
I wanted a toddler table for Kyle so he could do crafts, sit and maybe even take snacks there. I wanted a book shelf, I wanted more space for toys, I wanted more space for a toddler bed and I wanted it to be very boy-ish. I think I have achieved all of that!!
Nothing was easy with the project except the painting. The Natura paint is simply amazing!! I'm kind of wishing I went with a more true yellow than the butter yellow. The colors look true to their paint chips. It holds up wonderfully too! Kyle beat on the wall with a toy and the paint did not chip or scratch! It passes the toddler test and the mom test! It is wonderful paint.
I made all of the bedding by hand and it was quite the learning curve since before hand I had only ever sewn pillows. In fact I still have to make two quilts, one for Jake and one for Kyle but I'll get to that when I get to that. The closet went through 3 different organization styles to come to something that was workable for Kyle and I. The toddler table I bought had to be shortened since it was too tall for toddlers! (add in another lazy husband storey!) I'm still missing my toddler bed - it is on order but has not arrived yet. I was hoping it would be here by now. I wanted to spell Jake's name over the crib but Babies R US has been out of the letter A now for over a month! How is that even possible?!? I have my canvas up but there is no paint on it yet. I've been too busy with the other things and this pregnancy to start on my mural. =(
Anyway... I'm sure despite my wonderful and entertaining writing the biggest draw to this page is the pictures. So here they are!
Before:
This is the wall with the door in it. The door is next to the rocking chair in this picture.

This is the wall you see when you come into the room.

This is a short 9 foot wall.

The beloved fish tank!

During:
Here we are still painting!

This is a picture of the closet wall and what the closet looked like before I got to it!

After-ish:
I say after-ish because I still have some things on order from the Internet that have not arrived yet. I also need to finish a few of my sewing projects that have gotten behind thanks to running our of thread then my car breaking down!! I will finish them this weekend then post new pictures.

This is the wall next to the door. Eventually the dresser will move
closer to the custom light switch and this toddler bed will be on that wall under
Kyle's name! It matches the style of the crib and is cherry colored wood as well.

The Custom Switch

The wall you see when you walk into the room.

See the missing "A"! They were still out today when I called! This
makes 3 weeks of being out of the letter "A"! My mom said she'd get one
from her Babies R Us in Fort Worth if I still don't have an "A" by the
time my induction comes. Just annoying. The crib skirt and bumper
are near to be completed but I ran out of thread and my car broke down last night so... it's not done yet! It will be by weekend's end.

Notice that the damn tin
foil on the window! Ryan still hasn't hung the blinds! AH! I hung the valence but I
can't figure out the binds for some reason. I got Kyle his book shelf and toddler table! Yeay! And Kyle loves the table, he likes to just sit at it and well sit there. I got him some Color Wonder markets and he loves to color with them. I love the lack of mess. =)

This is the short wall as it is now. Ah! I love the blue!!

This is what it will look like as soon as I finish painting the mural on my canvas.

And for the closet! Kyle has a huge closet! I hung a string of patio lights along the door track and hung a fish light up under the shelf to add some light and whimsy. Plus, Kyle loves lights and fish so I thought they should be in the room somewhere! I have another identical fish lamp that needs to be hung yet.

This is Jake's dresser. Yes I know a little girly but it fits the space perfectly!

Before anyone says it. Don't worry about the loose wires. I have wire clippy things to attach them to the walls safely I just got them this evening and I am getting this in the mail next week! So Kyle can turn the lights on and off safely.

And here is the fish tank. It's a little cloudy right now because I just cleaned it and I haven't bought any decor yet. Gasp! So this is the tank! lol. Soon though, soon.

Ok that's what I have so far! And I will leave you with this picture because it is just so darn cute!

Comments:
Almost done! This has been quite the project really. I didn't expect it to be as much work as it was but it is so worth it!
Wow it all looks awesome! Thats a lot of work!
LOL on the tin foil !! Seriously! Putting up blinds would take just as much time and effort. LOLOL!
I love lazy hubbies... but I just wanted to say how cool it is that you've got a Jake and Kyle... My toddler is Jake (Jacob) and my lil baby (2 mos) is Benjamin Kyle. They currently share a room with big brother Alex...
I showed the tin foil thing to my husband (whose name is Kyle, btw), and you know what he said?
"Hey, it worked, didn't it?"
AAAAH!
Ok the room is BEAUTIFUL you have a wonderful talent. Wanna come do my house rofl.. Now as far as tehhubby thing, look up Mark Gungor on Youtube. He describes the husband drama perfectly... Be prepared to laugh cause he is right on themoney about how we view the laziness and they view it as a barter system lol

Wow, Lindsay, that looks awesome! I love it!!
I can't wait to see it, especially with the mural :)
That last pic of Kyle makes me think of that song (can't remember the name, but they play it on BOB FM a lot), "I don't want to play, I want to bang on the drum all day..."
