I can't believe I am writing that my kids are three years old as of June 15th. I can't believe it. Three years ago today, I was in the hospital in preterm labor, getting copious amounts of magnesium sulfate to try and stop my beanettes from making their grand entrance entirely too early. It was both the scariest, and also the single greatest day of my life. They came into this world kicking and screaming, even though they were preemies, and did really well. We started our lives together after a five week NICU stay, in which I was fortunate enough to take the teo buses up to see you ever single day.
As I write this, I feel a bit sad. Your baby days are long behind you now, and we're leaving the toddler years, too, and heading into the preschool years. I'm having a hard time facing that reality, but only because you girls are my entire world, and I just want the ride to slow down a little bit.
It's amazing to me how much they've grown and changed in the last year. Their vocabularies have soared, and they speak better than most kids older than them. They've gotten a full grasp on humour now and love to be silly. They have definite preferences - Disney Princesses rank up there with trains. They usually like to pose for the camera, and are into animals and LOVE to sing. While Elizabeth has really gotten close to Daddy, Alexandra is all Mommy, and is rarely not by my side. They play make-believe in such a sophisticated fashion. We're still working on the potty, but they're getting it. They're just a bit stubborn, like their mother. And wow, they just look so much older than this time last year - still small, but yet, getting longer and leaner, losing the baby faces and maturing into little girls.
I continue to be amazed by these awesome, special little girls. While two has been rough in some ways (tantrums galore), I'll always cherish this year, as I look forward to more adventures we'll have together.
