I'm a little disturbed.

In a post on in a group I belong to, a mother to be asked for advice on circumsizing her son.  Now im not here to open the circumcision debate.  But it did bother me that some of the moms responded with reasons for doing it such as: "I cant stand to see an intact penis" or "They are just ugly."  Let me start by saying I have no strong belief either way.  I left my son intact because it was right for my family, and i believe that you should only do what is right for your family.  However, while there are many good reasons for and against it, aesthetics is not one of them. 

Would you give your 2 day old a nose job?  How about collagen injections?  No?  Then why perform a circumcison for solely a cosmetic reason.  I understand that some people have very personal reasons for what they do, and sometimes they aren't willing to share those reasons.  But giving false reasons for allowing a surgery to be performed to an undecided woman is doing them a disservice.  Isn't the point of Cafe Mom to support each other and help each other out?  Offer up our experiences?  Give REAL advice?

I get your point. And would never give my reason to be "because it looks ugly" thats just stupid. I chose to circumsize because it helps keep them more clean down there. Some are pron to yeast infections and problems with smell. Of course it all depends on keeping yourself clean. Everyone is different and there's nothing wrong with that.

i absolutely agree that everyone is entitled to their choice.  it just dsturbed me that people chose to do it cuz its ugly.
