How often we say we trust God and yet we cling to our pain with self-righteousness, like some well-deserved and justified trophy of what someone else has done to hurt us. We must truly yield to God, trusting Him as a young child trusts her parents to care for her in every way.
Anger often grows from unresolved pain. What becomes of unresolved anger? It grows into bitterness which has very tangled and deep roots. Do not allow bitterness to take root. It will steal your joy and rob you of peace. Just as deadly poison kills the body, bitterness is poison to the spirit.
Be aware of the condition of your heart, be conscious of your state of mind and the path that you are walking. Do not be led by your emotions, do not "follow your heart", lead your heart in where it needs to go.
Trusting God requires some faith, but that little step of faith will grow each time you wait on the Lord and allow Him to direct your path.
Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Philippians 4:4-9
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Psalm 5:8
