I'm 29--that's my age.  I'm not afraid of it, I'm not fighting it.  30's around the corner and I think it's going to be fun.  (In fact, I'm hoping to throw myself a party and invite family and my closest friends).   Never in all my 29 years have I EVER been told I was old by a teenager.  NEVER.  And I've worked with teens for over 5 years.  And even kids younger than them and they never thought I was old!

Then, yesterday, I had my son's 15 year old God-sister in the car.  "Come On Eileen" came on one of the radio stations and I insisted we listen to it (it's one of "my songs"--I just love it, I think it's fun).  So, then she moans and groans saying "That's OLD PEOPLE'S MUSIC"

Okay...OLD PEOPLE'S MUSIC????  I thought that was 1930's or 1920's...not that I really have a definite definition for "old people's music" because I don't consider people OLD per se (feel old, can't be old).  And don't get me wrong, I like a long of music from those eras.  In fact, I tend to like "oldies" .

But I never thought anything from the 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's was "old people's music" or even old!  I mean I didn't live during the 60's and I still like it.  And as for the 70's, I was born in 1979, so I really didn't get much time in that era, either, but I don't consider the music necessarily old (some of it ODD, but not OLD).

So...tell me...how is it after years and years of working with teens and being told I'm NOT old that all of a sudden I AM old just because I like the song "Come On Eileen"?

I'd understand it coming from my SON...but he doesn't think of those things (he's a bit young for it, plus he likes almost anything that's music.  He dances to just about everything including the music we hear at Church LOL...he's not yet 3).

So, when did this happen?  I mean her 17 year old brother didn't think I was old, so why would someone 2 years younger than him think I was?  I never thought I was OLD...I always felt too young.

Oh and by the way...some teachers I had in high school that are quite a bit older than me said I was old or getting old (that's like the pot calling the kettle black, don't you think?)  Anyway, um, yeah...I'm just surprised.

I guess I better get used to it!
