This has been an exciting weekend for me!
First of all, we moved back in November 6 hours away from my mom and dad. When I first found out about the race and started training I was hoping my dad would be able to visit since he used to run races. However it wasn't looking like they could come and this past week I had to settle with talking to him on the phone.
Then I found out DH had to work today and would miss is AND my MIL (who also races) said she would just come over and watch the kids instead of going. I cried and cried thinking I would be all alone at my very first race. I talked to my MIL yesterday and she said she wanted to come and would bring all the kids, she just wasn't sure the kids would want to be up so early.
So last night hubby and I were sitting on the couch in our pj's when there was a knock at the door. I was sure it was one of the kids friends wanting them to come outside but to my utter shock it was my mom and dad!!! I was so excited that they made the 6 hour trip just to see me race.
Anyway, I ran my heart out. I pushed myself too early at the end and had to walk a few seconds and one girl who I had just passed ended up crossing the finish line right in front of me. It turned out she was in my age group and took 1st in our age group so I would have been 1st if I hadn't walked!!! Not bad for my first race, I got a 2nd place trophy which was just fine with me since I didn't expect to place at all.
My time was 28:01 which of course is my fastest and I could for sure feel it! Here are some pics my dad took:
