Sunday night my daughter and I went with a couple friends to see Walking With Dinosaurs, a live show at the arena. This show has been traveling around the globe for a few years now. As soon as I saw the advertisement, I wanted to go. I am very lucky my daughter loves dinosaurs too, and my husband was so wonderful to let us get some tickets. The seats were pretty high up, but I was just happy to be there! I think I was more excited than anyone else in our group!
My daughter and her friend are only five years old, but both very interested in dinosaurs. Her mom and I are both scientists, so this was a perfect outing for the girls, to show them how girls can be a part of science, even when we aren't at work. I didn't take any pictures because I knew it would be really dark there and I could get better pics in the program anyway. I paid $20 for the program and I am in love with it!!
This show started out as an award-winning BBC television series and grew to an incredible theatrical production. Designers worked with scientists to build 15 life-sized dinosaurs. Here is their official video clip, so you can get a visual idea about this show.
If this show comes to your neighborhood, I highly recommend seeing it! It is a bit loud and could be a bit scary for the little ones, but older kids enjoy it. They will get more out of it if you review dinosaur names and the different time periods a little bit before hand. This format of dinosaur education really gives every audience member a good idea of the massive size of these creatures that walked the Earth millions of years ago! Awesome show!!
My daughter andI have been talking about it for a few days now, and I am really impressed with how much she remembers. She learned about how some dinosaurs defend themselves by swinging their tails; tails have either big balls or spikes on the end. She remembered which dinosaurs eat plants and which eat other dinosaurs (meat). She remembered the sequence of events going through the ages, from plants to really hot with lava, to rain, then plants again. She remembered how brachyosaurs have long necks like giraffs and so they can eat the tops of trees. She remembered the comet that came and wiped them all out. She is having trouble with the concept of how dinosaurs changed into the birds we see today..... we are working on that! She's only five but she learned so much from the show (and my narative/discussion during and after)!!

My son and husband saw this together a year or two ago. They both loved it! From the pictures and the way my husband described it, it sounded great.
I wanted to see this so badly! It's supposed to be in Albany soon (or might already be). Unfortuneately I cannot afford the 60 dollar a piece (including kids!) pricetag :(
Thats awesome! We will go..thats cool. Fathers Day we went to Dinosaur World. They have a mile hike that you take through the woods. Scientists have created life size statues of the dinos and explanation of their habitat. There is also a museum..it was cool. The gift shop was great too as you could purchase fossils, toys, stones and crystals. www.dinoworld.org. Fun for the nonscientist mom like me.. the kids loved it. :)
My son went when he was 5 and he did think it was a little scary but he loved it. Now my 3 yr old is into dinosaurs; books, figures, puppets.
momforhealth - we wnted to go there when we were in Florida, but it was quite a drive from where we were staying, so we went to the Tampa Zoo a second day instead. Very cool!
Looks like an awesome show.
I LOVE the way the dinosaurs look so real, with the skin.
I never understood at how do WE know how they sounded and how were they vocally?
Such a mystery to these extrodinary creatures that used to walk the planet of which we live!
My fave dinosaur has always been the Brontosaures, a gentle plant eating giant.
