After much thought and consideration to all arguments I have arrived at the following conclusion.
A mother and her nursling should continue the breastfeeding relationship as long as they are both comfortable with it or the nursling meets the following requirements. If nursling is able to:
1) direct you to at least 20 pro-breastfeeding websites (no less then 10 being from medical professionals),
2) list all the benefits of breastfeeding for mother and child at various ages
3) recite his/her's state laws regarding public breastfeeding
4) Give a breakdown of all known nutritional components of breast milk vs formula.
If a nursling is able to do all the above perhaps it is time to consider stopping.

Love this!! My 25 month old is still going strong and we are not stopping any time soon unless she chooses to.
I think its too old when they crawl into your lap, puill up your shirt and do it themselves.
I used to think after age 2 was way, way, WAY too old, but that was before I was a mom. Now I think my personal choice would be to wean somewhere between the ages of 3-4. My little one had his own ideas on the subject however and decided that 14 months was long enough. He just self weaned from his last feeding this past week. I miss it but I have another one on the way so I'll be breastfeeding again soon!!
Cute post.
I think that everyone is different, but age 2 should be the standard minimum for nursing. Seriously, JUST the health benefits are worth it. Everything else is just icing on the top. :)
