On Thursday, June 24th we took our 6 year old son, Jonathan, to the ER. The left side of his face was paralyzed and we weren't sure if he'd had a stroke. He was diagnosed as having Bell's Palsy. Fine.....glad we were able to get a diagnosis and it's nothing too serious!! Well, while we were there I told the ER doctor that Jonathan had some sort of "lump" on his neck and that just a few weeks prior to getting Bell's Palsy he had blood in his urine. I wanted to know if any of these things were connected or possibly leading up to something more serious? There isn't a whole lot known on Bell's Palsy. Doctor's aren't sure if it's caused by a virus or isn't...... Anyhow....this "DOCTOR" totally ignored anything I was saying. She didn't even so much as glance at the lump on his neck. This lump has me terrified! It has tripled in size since Thursday. I don't like Hospitals and I don't trust them. I'm taking my son to his Pediatrician tomorrow and having her take a look at him. I'm hoping she can recommend a specialists for us to go see.
I'm scared. My son has been "sick" for a while now. Pale, not feeling good, very tired a lot, constantly hungry. The Hospital did blood-work, but I didn't even think to ask exactly WHAT they were testing for.
Comments:
Hospital ER's are really for life and death emergencies, they once told me. They are trained on saving someone who is dying.
I would call my doctor immediately and make an appointment.
When we took him in to the ER we weren't sure if it was a life threatening condition. Being 'paralyzed' on one side of the face is a sign of a stroke and a stroke can be life threatening!
I made an appointment for my son to see his Pediatrician. There was some sort of problem with his Insurance so we couldn't get in until tomorrow. (Wednesday July 1) The Pediatricians office was closed when we discovered his paralyzed face. We had NO other choice but go to the ER. We took him to St Joes children ER. We thought we'd get better treatment there......but we were wrong.
