First, I have to say, Cafemom, thanks for the opportunity to try out the "Agent Cool Blue." I had been wanting to try it out since I first saw the ads but everytime I went to the store, I would forget to pick some up. So, thank you Cafemom for the invite to try this stuff out!
Now, I am glad I didn't waste my money on this product.
When the "Agent Cool Blue" came in the mail, my boys were super excited! They had seen the commercials and said it looked like fun.
Brushing has always been trouble in my house. My kids will brush their teeth but sometimes they don't do a very good job. I thought this would not only make brushing fun but would also help to show them where to brush and for how long (I've even found a really cool toothbrush that lights up and blinks for the recommended brushing time, LOL).
Well, I decided to show my kids how to use the "Agent Cool Blue." So I followed the directions and used it myself. WOW! I about got knocked over with the taste!
I like spicy stuff and I like minty stuff. But even I was having trouble not gagging on the "Agent Cool Blue." It was like taking old fashioned, super alcholy Listerine and swooshing it around in your mouth for 30 seconds. I tried to put on a brave face but this stuff was strong. And the recommended amount? Way too much for MY mouth, how would it all fit in my 7 year old's and 9 year old's mouths?
Spit and start brushing. ANYTHING to get that awful spicy mint taste out of my mouth. I reached for my close-up and toothbrush quicker than my kids reaching for a piece of chocolate.
Alright kids, now it's your turn. This should be interesting.
My 9 year old gagged, instantly. The mint taste was way too strong for him. Same with my 7 year old.
I can say it did help with showing the kids where to brush and it helped with how long to brush too as the blue tinting doesn't go away very easily.
After they had brushed their teeth, I asked how they liked the stuff.
"Ewwwwww!" was the common response. My older son asked why did they make it taste like that and my younger son said, "Mommy, that was awful."
Now they won't touch the stuff.
Well, my kids have been known to be fickle about how stuff tastes so I asked my friends about their kids. Do your children like mint flavor or minty tasting things?
The concensus was NO. Of the 4 families (total of 18 kids, not including my 2 older children) only 1 child liked minty stuff, and she is 18 years old (does that still qualify as a child?). 3 of the kids "sometimes" like minty stuff but not usually for toothpaste and mouthwash, but they would occassionally eat a light peppermint candy or something similar.
So, who's idea was to make something minty tasting for children, when many children do not like mint flavoring? Sounds like a grown-up to me.
I won't be buying any "Agent Cool Blue" unless it comes in other flavors. Some suggested by my own 9 and 7 year olds were bubble gum, orange, grape and blueberry.
As for now, I have a bottle of "Agent Cool Blue" sitting on my bathroom counter that has been used 3 times (once by myself, once by my 9 year old, and once by my 7 year old)... and none of us will probably use it again.

Hmmm.... that could be interesting. We have an older house and you don't even want to know what color the toilet is. LOL It could make it so much worse looking or maybe it'll look better! LOL
My kids complained about the taste as well. I didn't try it myself but just figured it was because they don't like minty things either. They don't even like using regular toothpaste unless it has a fruity flavor. Now I'm curious to try it.
Good luck if you do try it. I eat jalapenos for a snack and even I had a problem with this stuff. LOL It burned my mouth.
My son loves minty things to the point of trying to steal MY toothpaste! He's 18 months. I guess he's the odd child.
Lol OMG this explains why my 12 year old doesnt like it!! He begged for the stuff and it sits on the bathroom counter collecting dust!! I have asked why he does not use it but he would just say IDK mom I just dont like it!! (I have dentures so I never tried myself)..... thanks for the info now into the garbage it goes

HHMM my kids liked it even my 2 year old asks to use it. I don't like that if the blue gets on the counter it it a pain to scrub off though
You might try Listerine Smart Rinse--it's the same deal, and it's berry-flavored. My 6-year-old twins love it!
I am a weird one I love the burn of the listerine. The stuff that crest makes is gross to me. But as a kid I hated the old school mouth wash.
My son on the other hand likes mint only in candy lol not in mouth wash.

Maybe it'll work for the toilet bowl. Just a thought :). Oh, never mind, I wouldn't want your toilet bowl getting stained blue!!!
