Pick My Brain If You dare

Venture into my crazy life w/ 2 boys!

Ok, so many of you know I rescue abandon animals. It's usually kitten that have to be bottle fed or cats & dogs found by the side of the road and nobody claims them. This time I had a much different experience that made me cry all the way home and at home. Now for those of you who don't know me personally I NEVER cry. Unless it concerns my child's health and I'm worried about them I don't cry. I've been through way to much crap in my 27 years on this earth and I'd cry everyday if I let it all get to me so I suck it up and take care of my family like a good mommy.

Now , here's what happen & I apologize in advance if my language offends I don't normally cuss in my post but I'm pissed off. I do not apologize for what I'm about to say about some of you though.

Some of you people are complete idiots! Have you ever been to fucking pound? Have you ever gone back there, volunteered there, adopted a animal from there, or anything? I went to our animal shelter this weeks to adopt and couple kittens to be placed in foster homes. I had never been to the shelter before and I hope I never have to again, EVER!!! I was one of the worst things I ever saw. The people their aren't very kind there either. In the two hours I was there I saw numerous people come in dropping off animals, not lost ones they found, but their own furry family members. One after another like a assembly line of disposable pets. I heard the peoples reason, "oh he barks to much", "I don't have the time anymore", "he scratched the chair", and all sorts of pathetic reasons they come up with. I'd hear the workers say ok, we'll try to find them a home. Then after the people leave I'd hear them say to the dog you better start acting cute or you're not gonna do well here and won't last a week. Some dogs were so scared they had to tie to ropes around them and drag them to the back to be put in a cage. They would pee themselves and shake and be crying for their human mommy or daddy to come back. what did they do so wrong to be almost guaranteed a death sentence? They acted like dogs and cats, that's all. Also, would it fuckin' kill your little personal time to much to put a add in the paper? You know, "dog (or cat) to good home only", something like that? that took me like 3 seconds to type, God people!!! They are so overcrowded that they kill 3 days a week and sometimes it's so bad they kill EVERYDAY!!!!   Maybe you didn't hear this right...they KILL EVERYDAY! That means your wonderful, loving, furry baby will be in a cage for up to five days, scared shitless, wondering where their mommy or daddy is, seeing other animals being killed, and then they will be killed with no one by their side to even comfort them. yeah, they were cute as babies and now they're big so they aren't worth your time. Would you do this to your human kids you ass holes? I went back their and there was tons of dogs standing at the cage doors wagging at me wanting to come home. I would put my hand in their and love them up and they would just lay their head in my hand, close their eyes, and sigh, they probably hadn't felt a little love and compassion in a long time. Then they'd perk up wag, and kiss me all over my hand. I would go to pull mu hand out to love on another dog, they would grab my hand with their paws and just hold on like, "please don't leave me!" I saw puppies, middle aged, and old greying dogs their. It's bad enough to turn in a puppy but a dog you've had 10 years who's loved and protected you and your family? What the hell is wrong with you people?!!!? Fucking unbelievable! Then I see the cats they're all meowing and the moment you put your hand up to the cage they start purring and kissing you hoping to make a good impression so you'll take them home. Only some of these animals are even lucky (if you call it that) to be air conditioned areas sometimes, most of them are kept in a garage with no air and just a door open with some fans blowing. Turn of your air (in Florida at that), turn on a fan, and open a door...see how long it takes you to feel like your gonna pass out form the heat and humidity. Also, you all know this problem would be SO much smaller if you just got your pets fixed. They need to make this a law unless your a licensed breeder you must have your pet spay/neutered.

So you go and tell yourself whatever you need to to make your day good and feel better about you choice, but this is the reality of it, you have just killed you pet. You are a murder and I hope karma kicks you ass!

I Rescued A Human Today.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT AT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Unlike most days at the Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray. All the recent arrivals at the Bridge did not know what to think, as they had never seen such a day. But the animals who had been waiting longer for their beloved people to accompany them across the Bridge knew what was happening, and they began to gather at the pathway leading to the Bridge. Soon an elderly dog came into view, head hung low and tail dragging. He approached slowly, and though he showed no sign of injury or illness, he was in great emotional pain. Unlike the animals gathered along the pathway, he had not been restored to youth and vigor upon arriving at the Bridge. He felt out of place, and wanted only to cross over and find happiness. But as he approached the Bridge, his way was barred by an angel, who apologized and explained that the tired and broken-spirited old dog could not cross over. Only those animals accompanied by their people were allowed to cross the Bridge. Having nobody, and with nowhere else to turn, the dog trudged into the field in front of the Bridge. There he found others like himself, elderly or infirm, sad and discouraged. Unlike the other animals waiting to cross the Bridge, these animals were not running or playing. They simply were lying in the grass, staring forlornly at the pathway across the Rainbow Bridge. The old dog took his place among them, watching the pathway and waiting, yet not knowing what he was actually waiting for. One of the newer dogs at the Bridge asked a cat who had been there longer to explain what was happening. The cat replied, "Those poor animals were abandoned, turned away, or left at rescue places, but never found a home on earth. They all passed on with only the love of a rescuer to comfort them. Because they had no people to love them, they have nobody to escort them across the Rainbow Bridge." The dog asked the cat, "So what will happen to those animals?" Before the cat could answer, the clouds began to part and the cold turned to bright sunshine. The cat replied, "Watch, and you will see." In the distance was a single person, and as she approached the Bridge the old, infirm and sad animals in the field were bathed in a golden light. They were all at once made young and healthy, and stood to see what their fate would be. The animals who had previously gathered at the pathway bowed their heads as the person approached. At each bowed head, the person offered a scratch or hug. One by one, the now youthful and healthy animals from the field fell into line behind the person. Together, they walked across the Rainbow Bridge to a future of happiness and unquestioned love. The dog asked the cat, "What just happened?" The cat responded, "That was a rescuer." The animals gathered along the pathway bowing in respect were those who had found their forever homes because of rescuers. They will cross over when their people arrive at the Bridge. The arrival here of a rescuer is a great and solemn event, and as a tribute they are permitted to perform one final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort all those poor animals they couldn't place on earth across the Rainbow Bridge and into Heaven." The dog thought for a moment, then said, "I like rescuers." The cat smiled and replied, "So does heaven, my friend. So does heaven."

Don't worry, this video is very good, has a happy ending, and isn't as "graphic" as some of the pictures above.

A Dog Sits Waiting
by Kathy Flood

A dog sits waiting in the cold
autumn sun.
    Too faithful to leave, too
frightened to run.
He's been here for days now
with nothing to do
But sit by the road, waiting for
you.
    He can't understand why you

left him that day.
He thought you and he were
stopping to play.
He's sure you'll come back, and
that's why he stays.
How long will he suffer? How
many more days?
His legs have grown weak, his
throat's parched and dry.
He's sick now from hunger and
falls, with a sigh.
He lays down his head and
closes his eyes.
I wish you could see how a
waiting dog dies.

oh honey.

yea it's horrible.. i had to send my cat to the pound and she was my baby in my eyes. i cried so much that day. but we couldn't afford her cause she went and got pregnant. i wished she never did, that way i was able to keep her till she can't live anymore.

and we had to send pur dog to the pound cause when he ran away, my dad found him, and found him tearing up the neighbor's rabbit, and we were afraid he might do that to the puppy we bought home sooner or later.

but the cat i had to give up. i found her and her other 2 sisters on the side of the road and their mother wouldn't come to them so i took them home. we found the other 2 a home for them and kept this one. those 3 kittens were my babies. they slept with me, i fed them, bathe them, did EVERYTHING with them. it was heartaching to give them up.

OMG! I don't understand how anyone can just drop off their pet. It would be like dropping off my kid because I didn't have time to take care of him/her and never having to worry about them anymore and not caring what happens. Great post! I hope people take it to heart.

This was a hard read.  I loved your honesty even though I hated the picture of the dead dogs.

My lab drives me up a wall sometimes.  He paces around my house, sticks his nose in the fridge any chance he gets and licks my clean dishes when I forget and leave the dishwasher open.  Thanks for the reminder that he is just acting like a dog.

Just like my marriage, me and this dog are in it for life. No matter how many times he breaks out of his kennel when we are gone, no matter how many times he freaks out over thunderstorms or fireworks, he's mine and I'm his.

Hopefully, if anyone was on the fence about giving their pet to a shelter, they have read this and changed their minds.

I read this and it made me cry. I didnt in some place they only kept them for 5 days. I agree with you. I did have to take 2 strays that was dropped off here after a couple of weeks to the pound. We have 2 dogs already and we just couldnt take on anymore dogs. I tried to find them a home before we took them but couldnt find anyone that wanted them. It broke my heart to take them.  If ppl cant afford to take care of the cats or dogs then they shouldnt get any animals at all. I hope that this post become popular so many more ppl can read it.

kentucky girl, not only that but sometimes if our shelter is over crowed they only give the animals 24 hours until they kill them!!! Some states it's even still legal to use the gas chamber to off them!

I rescue all my animals. Little Ricky is my newest member. When Buyou goes then I am adopting another baby (I call them babies no matter what). The only time I have ever taken a dog to the shelter was when one was a pup (they do raffles because pups go FAST here) and he was a hunting dog. Another one went because she attacked me and bit me. We couldn't trust her in a home. But she was a pup too so she went fast as well. Other than that I have four babies that I have kept.

I am trying to promote no kill shelters. We have been seeing a ton of them pop up here in the treasure valley. I adopted Neo from the no kill cat shelter. They NEVER kill their animals even if they have a life threatening disease. My moto is adopt from a no kill shelter so another baby has a chance to live.
