Kim's Journals

A little of this and a tad of that.

I wrote a post a while back about Internet fakers.  It seems that it is a rather fun past time for many these days.  I find it sad, actually.  I wish all people would see the wonderful, unique, beautiful person that they are.  Everyone has potential and it is unfortunate that some would rather spend their time spinning webs and building houses of cards than spend their time developing an actual life or actual character for themselves.

There is one thing about fakers that really frosts my buttons - plagiarizing.  As a (although unpaid) writer myself this is very disturbing to me.  I spend a lot of time and effort writing on my blogs and journals, so I know how time consuming and complex it can be.  To see the words of others blatantly ripped off or simply changed a bit to make it a bit different and posted as ones own is maddeningly disturbing to me.  To tell you the truth it makes me so angry I would like to reach through my computer screen and throttle the scheming little plagiarizer on the other side of the screen.  Use your own words, damn it!  Or at least have the courage to admit that they aren't your words.  I often use music as an inspiration for my writing, but when I used the words of the author of a song that inspired me I ALWAYS give credit to them.  Why can't other people do the same?

It is not hard to find out if a blog or journal is fake.  As a matter of fact, I have found several in the last twenty four hours that were in different ways plagiarized.  Now, I have no way of knowing, at this juncture whether the 'author' of these journals is a total and complete fake, or if she simply is not that great of a writer and is using the words of others and changing them a bit to fit her story, either way it is plagiarism plain and simple.

There is no good way, on a large social network for plagiarism to be policed properly.  It would take multiple people working full time to do such a thing.  To my mind it is troubling that there would even be a need for such a thing.  If you aren't a good writer, so what?  Why steal somthing that someone else wrote?  Develop your own talent.  Everyone has one, so while you are spending all that time stealing the talent from someone else, your own talent it is lying fallow.

One of the most heartbreaking things I think you can do in life is to fail to see the authentic beauty in yourself by trying to be a bogus replication of someone elseDon't think you aren't hurting anyone either because you are.  You not only are hurting the person who put their heart into an original piece, but you are also hurting and cheating yourself.  Get a life!

I totally agree Kim - I was thinking about writing a journal about the faker myself.  Yours is much better.  Maybe I'll just change a few words and post it as my own...whattyathink?  LOL!

I have honestly not noticed the faker(s).  I must not be paying close attention to the journals.  It's one thing to post an article with the source, but to actually steal someone else's words and claim them as your own is very dishonest and morally wrong.

It's a shame you're unpaid.  I know that many of us would subscribe to your blogs and you could earn some decent money with sponsors on your own website.  You write so well, and your topics are very interesting, informative, and often funny.  I would love to see that.

Voted up!

If I was more of an extrovert, I'd be your literary agent, Kim!

I never thought an ordinary life was boring, everyone has a story and every one's story unique. I do feel strongly about those that feel they have to steal someone else's to get attention. And plagiarism, don't ya think you wouldn't get sniffed out?.....
