Tending our Economic Garden ...
An Analogy
Our economy is a lot like a garden overgrown with weeds.
While there are still flowers visible, it's obviously a mess.
The flowers in our economic garden are the businesses that provide jobs and produce everything we choose to buy.
The weeds are government programs, such as bailouts, subsidies, and regulations. Like weeds, government programs absorb nutrients (i.e. capital) that businesses need to flourish.
The "Do Nothing" Approach
Some want to give up on our economy. They say there is nothing we can do or that it’s best to do nothing. But, if we don’t act:
Government weeds will continue to grow bigger and stronger, eventually crowding out all the flowers.
The American spirit of personal initiative and responsibility will continue to diminish, leaving us dependent and weak.
We’ll be further under the thumb of politicians and bureaucrats, the people who run the Postal Service, Amtrak, and the DMV!
Government-run economies lead only to poverty and despair. In the 20th century millions of people literally starved to death as a direct result of government agriculture programs.
The Libertarian Way
The right approach is to pick up a shovel and dig out every weed. That's what Libertarians want to do. Dig up every failed government program that is choking the economy and toss it on the compost heap of history. A few examples:
Stop every business bailout and subsidy. Weak businesses must die so stronger, better-managed businesses can thrive.
Shut down wasteful government bureaucracies, like the departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Education, and Energy. Americans would have better and cheaper food, businesses, schools, and power without them.
Close the Federal Reserve. Sound economies are based on sound money, not by inflating our savings away.
Your help is needed to weed our economic garden.

Great journal Jan! Hopefully it will get people thinking, and will bring some new mammas to Libertarian Mammas, the smartest group on the cafe!
Love the analogy! The problem is the stinkin weeds have already dropped their seeds and some bueracratic "bird" has come along, gobbled up the seed and is flying over "prime soil" waiting to crap it out and start the weed patch all over again.
Yes, but the seeds of Liberty are a hardy stock ... tended to by Patriots for generations. We just need more Patriots out there weeding the garden now and in time we'll see the Tree of Liberty thrive again!
