I saw your on the hiway today as your were getting ready to go into the next lane. I heard your bike and saw your signal. I was paying attention. I shared the road and let you pass. I saw you wave at me at you passed. I also our daughter on the back of your bike wave too. I saw that neither your nor your daughter were wearing helmets or safety gear. And i just wanted to tell you PLEASE WEAR THEM! You may look funny, or fell hot and uncomfortable but you (and your little girl who couldn't have been more then 10 at the very most) Will be alive and safe. I SAW YOU! I SHARED THE ROAD! THIS SHOULD BE A COMMON COURSTEY BUT SADLY IS NOT! Iwas raised that bikers are people too. MY parents had many biker friends when i was growing up. I love bikers and have learned how big their hearts truly are. I have learned to watch and share the road.. to listen, and to let you pass because My car can do alot more damage to your bike then your bike can do to my car. Sadlyy though Many people do not care. not everyone was raised to look out for bikers. Many think they are a nuisance. Many do not see them or care until it is too late. But I do. I respect your right to ride and honestly would love to have a bike of my own one day.. But Please Mr Biker. I implore you: WEAR YOUR HELMET ! At the very least wear it so that your daughter will. What if the next time you are on the hiway you are trying to pass someone and they don't see you? They run you and your daughter off the road.. And you have no helmets on? I highly doubt that either of you would ride or walk again...I know it was hot today Mr. Biker and you may have been in rush to go somewhere I know you may have riding for years and are probably very safe in your driving but others are not.... but PLEASE NEXT TIME .. Wear your helmet.. Just in case..
Best Regards,
A concerned Mortorist

I agree so much. I was taught that you give bikers lots of space, because you as a driver are their biggest threat on the road. In Texas it's not required for them to wear a helmet, and my husband doesn't wear his helmet when he rides. It bothers me, but he's a grown man and I simply cannot MAKE him do it. I'm not sure I'll ever be comfortable with seeing either of my daughters climb up on his Harley, but if that day comes, they will be wearing a helmet, no ifs ands or buts about it.
You know I think this is a great post.....!!!
We do NOT have a helmet law and neither of us or any of our BIKER FRIENDS wear helmets....!!! We chose not to for our own personal reasons....Which NO ONE on here will EVER agree with so I will NEVER share that....
BUT as you know TURBO was run of the road on his Harley the day after Mothers Day and we are lucky that he has NO head injuries...Many other injuries...But Thank God no head injuries...!!!
BIKERS don't own the road , nor do I think that any of them think they do...( The safe riders anyway ) Which we both are as are our friends..
But IMO any child who rides on the back of the Harley ( or any bike for that matter ) SHOULD have to wear a helmet...!!!
From a HARDCORE BIKER ......Thank you for sharing the road my friend....We appreciate it , not only because we all have a right to be on the road , BUT a lot of times that WE are on the road is to raise money for those in need...!!!
Love ya girl....
Happy 4th....

My hubby and I are Bikers and we do not get on the bike without having full gear on!! NO IF ANDS OR BUTS ABOUT IT!! It doesn't matter how HOT it is we would much rather sweat our butts of than go out without the gear. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A HELMET LAW IN EVERY STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My hubby and I talk about how the people who choose not to wear helmets are such idiots. But this is coming from someone who doesn't feel safe riding on the bike unless I have on my Helmet, jacket, gloves, boots, and pants. Cause you might think you are a great driver but you never know what someone around you might do?!!!!!
Here in CO there is no helmet law. Bikers are only required to wear protective eye gear. However, I have been seeing more and more bikers wear helmets along with other full body, leather protection.
I wish they'd make it a law. I've seen one too many fatal accidents where the biker's head was cracked open and his brain matter was all over the road.
They've finally started enforcing the "Click It or Ticket" law and they've just passed one making it illegal to text while driving or not using a hands free device for your cell. Thing is, the law can only do so much to try and protect you...if people aren't going to use good judgement and obey the laws there will continue to be needless, senseless injuries and deaths.
There will be a lot of bikers out and about this weekend, especially up in the mountains, I PRAY everyone will watch out for them and PLEASE, drive careful! Above all else...DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE! It's NOT worth it!!!
HAPPY 4th OF JULY TO EVERYONE!

We have problems here with crotch rocket kids. The young under 25 group that doesn't wear helmets and weave in and out of traffic. One of them zoomed past me on the freeway between two cars. I was literally side by side with this car and he zoomed right between because he wanted to go faster.
These kids will typically wear shorts, tank top, and flipflops. As a medical student I cringe at the day I have to get out of my car and scrape them off the side of the road while trying to save their life.
I wrecked on a bike, Had nasty road rash, and broke the helmet.. thank GOD I never got on a bike without it, we were just going for a spin around the block.. would have been my last spin if not for that helmet!!
