I saw your on the hiway today as your were getting ready to go into the next lane. I heard your bike and saw your signal. I was paying attention. I shared the road and let you pass. I saw you wave at me at you passed. I also our daughter on the back of your bike wave too. I saw that neither your nor your daughter were wearing helmets or safety gear. And i just wanted to tell you PLEASE WEAR THEM! You may look funny, or fell hot and uncomfortable but you (and your little girl who couldn't have been more then 10 at the very most) Will be alive and safe. I SAW YOU! I SHARED THE ROAD! THIS SHOULD BE A COMMON COURSTEY BUT SADLY IS NOT! Iwas raised that bikers are people too. MY parents had many biker friends when i was growing up. I love bikers and have learned how big their hearts truly are. I have learned to watch and share the road.. to listen, and to let you pass because My car can do alot more damage to your bike then your bike can do to my car. Sadlyy though Many people do not care. not everyone was raised to look out for bikers. Many think they are a nuisance. Many do not see them or care until it is too late. But I do. I respect your right to ride and honestly would love to have a bike of my own one day.. But Please Mr Biker. I implore you: WEAR YOUR HELMET ! At the very least wear it so that your daughter will. What if the next time you are on the hiway you are trying to pass someone and they don't see you? They run you and your daughter off the road.. And you have no helmets on? I highly doubt that either of you would ride or walk again...I know it was hot today Mr. Biker and you may have been in rush to go somewhere I know you may have riding for years and are probably very safe in your driving but others are not.... but PLEASE NEXT TIME .. Wear your helmet.. Just in case..
Best Regards,
A concerned Mortorist

I am a biker, who personally chooses not to wear a helmet. That is my choice.
However, I do feel that ANY child on the back of a bike, should be required, by law, to wear a helmet.
I am old enough to make my own decisions. To decern what is to my best benefit, and what is not.
A child cannot do that.
In all honestly, though, most bike accidents are more than serious. The impact that a car has on bike, most often it doesn't even matter if you ARE wearing a helmet.
My Uncle died when his bike went down. He WAS wearing a helmet. But, the helmet was no match for the impact of going 65 mph and hitting the pavement.
My cousin went down on her bike. She was NOT wearing a helmet. She died as well. The doctors said that even if she had worn a helmet, that she still wouldn't have had a chance.
It's a personal choice. As is wearing a seatbelt.
But, thank you for being so cautious. People are not as attentive as they should be while driving a vehicle.
thanks for sharing
I've witness one bike accident where the teen had no helmet on. he was 16. he died.
my friend worked in ICU as a nursing student. took care of a 17 year old male in coma. Bike accident. No helmt.
I always look out for bikers...even if I'm in the passenger seat. I'll point them out to whoever is driving, just to make sure they are aware of them as well.
I hate seeing kids (under 10) on the back of bikes. Sure it might be fun and all, but wouldn't it be a little safer to have them in the car? My cousin lets his 5 year old daughter ride on the back of his bike... granted he only takes her a few blocks, but still...it don't take long for something bad to happen!
If your going to wear a helmet, that's great. If not, that's your choice, but any MINOR on your bike should have to wear one.
Damn, my city has a law that even cyclists and scooter riders must wear a helmet in the street!
DH's life was saved at least a dozen times because of his bike gear. (He wasn't the brightest crayon before I met him)
Also, on a bike, you don't get hot...yeah, at stops you might, but a GOOD QUALITY LEATHER outfit (cannot stress leather enough) can save your life or days of recovery from regrowing all of your skin
i was taught to watch for motorcyclist my father was hit by someone not paying attention and he was dressed the part as he calls it even wearing gloves he lost his leg and his career but it could have been his life chose to stay alive and please chose to save a life
it can happen to any one. i crashed mine in march . i was in weel char till last month..
ty ..ty ..ty!!!!!!
Not everyone feels that wearing a helmet is safe. As a fender rider I can tell you this, helmets cause you to lose your peripheral vision. Hope you know what that is and means. Any adult should be able to make their own choice, but a child should have to wear a helmet!
My husband is a Harley mechanic today a fellow coworker of his was in a bad motorcycle accident an older man hit him because he didn't look before making a left turn he lived because he had a helmet on. But a helmet can both save and kill you. My FIL almost died because he was in a bike accident and had broken his arm so bad he couldn't move it and his helmet was choking him to death-if it wasnt for someone else being on the road when they were he would be dead. I personally always ALWAYS were a helmet when I ride. My husband wears one depending on where hes going and what kind of bike hes on. I wish he would wear it always but I can't make him. However any child no matter what age should have a helmet on! I make my 3 year old wear one riding her bicycle!
I agree! DH's family is all bikers... they always wear protective gear. My BIL is a biker. Without his protective gear he could have been killed many times. There are actually people out there that TARGET bikers.

We have a HUGE problem in my town that young kids on crotch rockets and even motorcycles will NOT drive like they should ! They drive out of control it's rediculous ! I have NO respect for these kids that drive 100 mph down a busy road during rush hour weaving in and out of the traffic like it's cool . It's NOT they should be more careful becuase it's THEM that will end up most likely dead when they cause an accident !
THat being said the VERY few around here that drive like they should I respect .
