A lil look into my twisted mind

I saw your on the hiway today as your were getting ready to go into the next lane. I heard your bike and saw your signal. I was paying attention. I shared the road and let you pass. I saw you wave at me at you passed. I also our daughter on the back of your bike wave too. I saw that neither your nor your daughter were wearing helmets or safety gear.  And i just wanted to tell you PLEASE WEAR THEM! You may look funny, or fell hot and uncomfortable but you (and your little girl who couldn't have been more then 10 at the very most) Will be alive and safe. I SAW YOU! I SHARED THE ROAD! THIS SHOULD BE A COMMON COURSTEY BUT SADLY IS NOT!  Iwas raised that bikers are people too. MY parents had many biker friends when i was growing up. I love bikers and have learned how big their hearts truly are. I have learned to watch and share the road.. to listen, and to let you pass because My car can do alot more damage to your bike then your bike can do to my car. Sadlyy though Many people do not care. not everyone was raised to look out for bikers. Many think they are a nuisance. Many do not see them or care until it is too late.  But I do. I respect your right to ride and honestly would love to have a bike of my own one day.. But Please Mr Biker.  I implore you: WEAR YOUR HELMET ! At the very least wear it so that your daughter will. What if the next time you are on the hiway you are trying to pass someone and they don't see you? They run you and your daughter off the road.. And you have no helmets on?  I highly doubt that either of you would ride or walk again...I know it was hot today Mr. Biker and you may have been in  rush to go somewhere I know you may have riding for years and are probably very safe  in your driving but others are not.... but PLEASE NEXT TIME .. Wear your helmet.. Just in case..

Best Regards,

 A concerned Mortorist

my brother (33 at the time) had a crotch rocket.  in his state, the fastest way to get your bike license is to take a motorcycle driving safety course, which he did. two years ago, he totalled the bike, it was a "perfect storm" of bad pavement, shifting and mild distraction - no stupid stuff even though he had a crotch rocket.  he was lucky and only broke his femur and had a concussion.  the er nurse said without the helmet, he'd be dead or a vegetable.  as it was, he spent several days drugged to the gills for the pain, and someone had to deal with the insurance companies and other nonsense.

my point - if you don't wear a helmet and wreck the bike, *you* may not care if you die, in fact you may prefer it so you're spared the pain of recovery or permanent damage, but there are worse things than death and you've just saddled a family member or friend with the mess you leave behind.

I agree completely.  Can't imagine a parent letting a child ride without a helmet.  In NC we have a helmet law.  I am always respectful and share the road with bikers, but a lot the bikers around here drive very crazy and put themselves in harms way.  Since they are small enough, they cut in between cars and pass on the right side of the road.  Very dangerous.

Jul. 4, 2009 at 9:14 AM If my husband didn't wear full gear (the good stuff, not leather!) and a helmet there's no way in hell he'd be riding his motorbike. It takes a special kind of idiot to think that riding along at 60+MPH without protection is a good idea. If you want to get yourself killed then it's prerogative but it's very selfish not to consider your friends and family. If someone hits you and you die then they have to live the rest of their lives knowing that they accidentally killed someone which is hard to live with, even if it is due to the dead persons stupidity.

One of my friends went off his bike last year broke his collarbone and had a lot of flesh wounds (he was wearing a jacket but no riding pants) but he survived because he was wearing a decent jacket and a helmet. Another friend survived a horse riding accident because she was wearing her helmet; the horse was hit by a car and panicked, stamping on her head after she fell off. Yet another friend fell off her bicycle on to gravel and got extensive facial scarring but her helmet meant her eyes didn't drag along the ground and almost certainly saved her sight. Bottom line: if several companies make helmets for your chosen sport and several states legally require them then it's probably a damn good idea to wear one!

I, occasionally, choose to go without a helmet. I, occasionally, choose to go without a jacket.
In those situations, though, my husband and I are usually ridin in (what my DH calls) a "parade" situation..... Lots of Bikers, in a group, either doin a Poker Run or at Bike Week....
My kids NEVER ride without gear!
My husband has been saved a few times, by the fact that he was wearin his helmet and a riding jacket! (specifically....not a thin hoody, that doesnt count)
All his accidents (hes had 3 major ones) were not his fault! Its the assholes on the road, in cars, that have no common sense what-so-ever!
Its funny you wrote this....just yesterday we saw a guy and girl on a bike in tank tops, shorts and flip-flops! My husband and I both said the same thing, "Idiots!"
I kno we live in Fl, but that pretty lil tank wont look all that nice shredded to bits, covered in blood, on the side of the road, whyll your lifeless body lies 40 ft away, twitchin from a head wound!
Yeah, its graphic, but thats the pic some of these bikers need to get into their head!
If I choose to go without gear, its on me, but I trust my husband with my life! Im in his hands at that moment whyll were ridin....unfortunately, were in everyone elses....
