You have the nerve to ask that?
I rescue "evil dogs" all the time. Christians and all faiths ask "Why do you judge me on a few idiots with our title?" So why do you judge MY dog on a few animals that had bad owners?

I saved him from the shelter... he was a fighting dog. But he loves me and protects me like nothing happened. He doesn't blame humans for what happened to him and he took the chance to love me and trust me. When I was pregnant puking every where he put his head in my lap and gave me kisses. When he thought someone was by my son's window at the old house he stayed put right by that window at attention until the danger was gone.
He saved me from a Boxer attack (yep I was attacked by a boxer). He is a well trained baby. And my son's best friend. You attack him and you will have problems with his whole family. He is my family and I will put my reputation on the line for him. Even if I have to go to the courts and use every penny I ever earned to prove every person wrong about the breed I would. And I refuse to move some where, where he isn't accepted.
Just because I was attacked by a boxer does not mean I blame all boxers. I blamed the owner and when I found that owner... oh were they shaking.
He is now 8 years old and is sensibly an old man. Gentle and loving he sleeps by me every night.. the only lethal thing about him is his farting. And anyone who has met him has fallen in love with him. He is the reason my cousin has a pit now and the reason many of my friends went and bought pits. They really are great dogs. Just not for families who are too busy.
So please respect the breed. If you don't have time do not adopt or buy one. Because that puppy turns into a raving loony full of energy and needs about three walks a day and about 2 hours of fetch.
Buyou is buff because my husband would take him on pulls. Meaning he would tie him up to his bike and let him pull him around the subdivision three times just to tire him out.
They eat a lot.. their high energy makes them hungry all the time. The only thing in danger is your furniture and shoes. He ripped through 100 dollars worth of my shoes before I grew smart and bought him a Kong. They are the only thing to stand up to pits.
And beyond that.. introduce the whole family to them because they are protective. If you don't introduce them those people are strangers. When I had my son we had to introduce Buyou first with a blanket with my son's scent. Then we showed him to Buyou. And after that they are inseparable.
I think that would be an awesome idea. Just like adoption with human children. Take a class before you can adopt.
i love ur post. my aunt just before i had my dd taught me that pits are gentle. i was bite when i was younger so i was scared but i really love them now. when dd was in the hosptial my 23 month olkd went to her house to stay and her two pits baby and kaleya slept in his bed and protected him all night and he slept the nite away. when he woke up they got my aunt and took her to him. if i didnt live in an apartment id have a pit. thanks
momma halo,
feel free to add another comment to my most recent post and add the link to your post on it. I think people who read my latest journal should read yours as well!!!
Ive never had a fear of Pit Bulls, or any dog for that matter!
I stand to break any stereotypical BS surrounding the breed! I did a oral speech on pits and why people should own them, last term at school.
There are/ were some amazing Bull terriers out there! War heroes, Pete from "The Little Rascals". Helen Keller even owned a pit, as do lists of famous people!
Before the breed got such a bad name, they were "America's Dog"!
Its a shame what theyve been reduced to!
I believe its not their fault, its the owners.
I, currently, own a pit mix who is a hyper spaz, but a great dog!
Great post, Mama!
Awww ty! That is so cute!
My dog is under attack all the time. When he was younger he would jump on people no matter how big they were. And a little girl wanted to pet my dog and I told her that it would be to dangerous for her because he would jump on her playing around. And the mom automatically took that as he would bite her and flipped out. I rolled my eyes and told her that he has a hyper jumping problem which is normal in pits.

I use to say that they shouldn't kill pits but make it illegal to continue to breed them, they should have to have them all fixed. But after alot of research I've done this past year I think people who adopt a pit should be required to take a few classes to educate themselves is all.
