You have the nerve to ask that?
I rescue "evil dogs" all the time. Christians and all faiths ask "Why do you judge me on a few idiots with our title?" So why do you judge MY dog on a few animals that had bad owners?

I saved him from the shelter... he was a fighting dog. But he loves me and protects me like nothing happened. He doesn't blame humans for what happened to him and he took the chance to love me and trust me. When I was pregnant puking every where he put his head in my lap and gave me kisses. When he thought someone was by my son's window at the old house he stayed put right by that window at attention until the danger was gone.
He saved me from a Boxer attack (yep I was attacked by a boxer). He is a well trained baby. And my son's best friend. You attack him and you will have problems with his whole family. He is my family and I will put my reputation on the line for him. Even if I have to go to the courts and use every penny I ever earned to prove every person wrong about the breed I would. And I refuse to move some where, where he isn't accepted.
Just because I was attacked by a boxer does not mean I blame all boxers. I blamed the owner and when I found that owner... oh were they shaking.
He is now 8 years old and is sensibly an old man. Gentle and loving he sleeps by me every night.. the only lethal thing about him is his farting. And anyone who has met him has fallen in love with him. He is the reason my cousin has a pit now and the reason many of my friends went and bought pits. They really are great dogs. Just not for families who are too busy.
So please respect the breed. If you don't have time do not adopt or buy one. Because that puppy turns into a raving loony full of energy and needs about three walks a day and about 2 hours of fetch.
Buyou is buff because my husband would take him on pulls. Meaning he would tie him up to his bike and let him pull him around the subdivision three times just to tire him out.
They eat a lot.. their high energy makes them hungry all the time. The only thing in danger is your furniture and shoes. He ripped through 100 dollars worth of my shoes before I grew smart and bought him a Kong. They are the only thing to stand up to pits.
And beyond that.. introduce the whole family to them because they are protective. If you don't introduce them those people are strangers. When I had my son we had to introduce Buyou first with a blanket with my son's scent. Then we showed him to Buyou. And after that they are inseparable.
I am with you... one of my best friends growing up was the Pit that lived across the street from us!! Thor was awesome!! He jumped his 6 ft fence all the time- to come out and play... he'd jump up and swing from the branches of the fruitless mulberry tree in their front yard.
We have two dogs currently. Jake is an Akita Chow black lab cross. He looks like a toned down version of an Akita!! There are almost as many laws about Akitas as there are Pits... renter's insurance is almost impossible to get... He is extremely protective, and yet lets our 5 & 7 yo grrls JUMP over him repeatedly- never even flinching!! And he stepped in front of my newly running 13 mo dd as she headed for a stairway with concrete at the bottom!!! He has taken a Cheerio from their little toddler fingers with his front teeth oh so gently...
LOL can you tell I love him??!!! When we got him, he was 65 lbs and 18 months. We thought he was fullgrown...lol. My hubby reached out and grabbed all over Jake's body (like a toddler will do) to see his reactions- especially his nuts. He established his alpha status at that point. As his mate I am alpha too, plus I groom him and fix his boo-boos... Oh, and he is now 105 lbs!!!
Our other dog is part black lab, part Aussie shepard and part largish terrier (my guess is Pit, could be Boxer...). She is brindle and white. She LOVES Jake!!!We did not expose her to other people, and she is very fearful- barks a lot at visitors. Neither have food ownership issues- we made sure of that.
Wow, I just wrote my own post basically on your journal... so sorry... :-P
Your dog is beautiful too...
I have to admit--I just about pee my pants every time I am around a pit.I have rescued both of my dogs and am truly a dog lover.I'm so thankful for you to share this information.I'm on vacation in Florida at the moment but visited a rescue shelter this past Wednesday.Although terrified,My next dog will be a pit.I learned so much from the sweet people working the shelter.I know I'm not ready and agree classes should be taken before adoption. It broke my heart that the shelters large dogs were predominantly pits. They are gorgeous animals.
We have a pitt her name is Skittles. She makes us all feel special. She goes to bed with me at night. Licks our daughter when she is upset about anything. And lays on my husband when he is stressed. Last week I had a panic attack, she went into the bedroom, and layed by my side, occassionally licking my face. It was over with in less than 10 minutes. We had someone try to break into our house a month ago. She started barking, they ran off. Two weeks ago on a walk we had a vicious little dog run across the street yapping its head off, it tried to go to my daughter. Skittles stands in front of her, assumes the protective stance and barks once. The dog swirved off, and we continued our walk. We adopted her from Tails. I just wish that she would play fetch though. The lab makes her kind of dopey at times.
Great post! i love pit bulls. My mom put mine to sleep after i moved out of the house. She was afraid she was going to bite my little brother. (he was a baby at that time). I was sooooo pissed at her.

Thank you for this post! I am a former owner of Boxers and Pits and am always saddened by the bad rap they get. Your boy is adorable. :)
