OK...Despite a self-imposed disinterest in Sarah Palin's latest stop on the Self-Promotion Train, I found myself reading her farewell speech on her personal website. In all fairness, it was linked to a story in Huff Post by Paul Begala (lest you might think I'm looking for this stuff) who wrote the following:
Let's stipulate that if there is some heretofore unknown personal, medical or family crisis, this was the right move. But Gov. Palin didn't say anything like that. Her statement was incoherent, bizarre and juvenile. The text, as posted on Gov. Palin's official website (here), uses 2,549 words and 18 exclamation points. Lincoln freed the slaves with 719 words and nary an exclamation; Mr. Jefferson declared our independence in 1,322 words and, again, no exclamation points. Nixon resigned the presidency in 1,796 words -- still no exclamation points. Gov. Palin capitalized words at random - whole words, like "TO," "HELP," and "AND," and the first letter of "Troops."
My interest was piqued and I clicked the link. As a lover of language and the written word, I visibly cringed at some of the stinkers she let fly. I've read better papers from ninth graders who had pulled them out of their butts an hour before class. A warning to fellow grammarians: should you choose to read it in its entirety, have your paper bag ready. It's long, tedious and the writing in it could cause one to hyperventilate when coupled with the thought of the, albeit slim, possibility that she could be our President some day (please, God, no).
It's my understanding that she is writing a book (one of the reasons cited for her resignation). The only thing I can say is: please, pray for her editor. He or she will need it.
I wanted to share the entire excerpt with all of you because, in all honesty, it is something to behold.
My decision was also fortified during this most recent trip to Kosovo and Landstuhl, to visit our wounded soldiers overseas, those who sacrifice themselves in war for our freedom and security… we can ALL learn from our selfless Troops… they’re bold, they don’t give up, they take a stand and know that life is short so they choose to not waste time. They choose to be productive and to serve something greater than self... and to build up their families, their states, our country. These Troops and their important missions – those are truly the worthy causes in this world and should be the public priority with time and resources and not this local / superficial wasteful political bloodsport.
May we all learn from them!

While watching her resignation "press conference" my daughter made the comment that she (Palin) should fire her speech writer because nothing she said was coherent or grammatically correct. I could only smile and tell her Ms. Palin didn't use a speech writer for this endeavor and if she had, it was herself.
I rather hope she does run--it guarantees four more years of competence for this country. As you said, thank God we dodged this one!
After "God gave us energy" I just decided not to give her any more of my time or attention. Such a twit she is, yet 2/3 of Republicans would vote for her for President. *walks away sobbing*
