YAKIMA- After a five year Battle off and on with Lung cancer, failing kidneys and finally a brain tumor. Ronald Duane Herron, 75, went to our lord Tuesday June 30, 2009. Born Sheridan, Oregon; July 13, 1933 to Marion Loris and lillie Jane (Calkins) Herron. Preceded him in death were his parents and sister Sherrie Herron; Survived by his two brothers Dean and Gary; His 6 children Leo LaMay, David Herron, Mary Grundy, Cathy Stai, Marcy Turner, and Timothy Herron; his 12 grandchildren Afton, Giget, Leo, Heather, Daniel, Cara, Leann, Cailey, Marayna, Amy, Christine, Scott; 7 Great Grandchildren and 1 pending.
Ron a Vet of the Koren Conflict, honorably discharged March 1960, member of the VFW; long standing member of the American Legion and the Wapato and Toppenish Eagles. he was a great outdoors man doing a number of activities like hunting, fishing, canoe/boating, archery, back packing with horses and collecting firewood. He breed and raised purebred German short hairs for hunting. Passing this love to all of his children and grandchildren.
He was a carpenter and enjoyed his growing career into a construction foreman and a Finish Carpenter he was initiated as a Union Carpenter in August 1967; many of the sites around the Yakima Valley & Ellensburg he had a hand in building ...these include Residential Condos, Single family to eight plex structures. The Library building at Central WA University, Granger Schools, Gear Jammer Truck Stop, and many more places. As a foreman he was awarded safety awards for 5,000 hr, 10,000 hr & 20,000 Man hour Safety.
Ron was known to his friends and any acquaintance as outgoing and always ready to lend a hand or show you how to get the job done making time to have a smile for your as a stranger or a friend! God Bless the time you had with us and we are all the richer to know you as a beloved son, father, father in-law, husband, uncle, cousin, grandfather, great grandfather, friend!
