Why should one Pray for a Country?
Benjamin Franklin, certainly one of the least religious of the Founding Fathers and co-authors of the Declaration of Independence, reminded his fellow delegates at the Constitutional Convention of 1787 for the need prayer in and by our government bodies said it best.It is self evident that our founding fathers wanted prayer in our government. In fact to this day, because of the wishes of those that wrote the Declaration of Independence (the corner stone of government within The United States of America), we begin every session of congress with a prayer."In the beginning of the contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayer in this room for the Divine protection. Our prayers, sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending Providence in our favor... And have we now forgotten that powerful Friend? Or do we imagine we no longer need His assistance? I have lived, sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth-that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured, sir, in the Sacred Writings, that "except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel:... I therefore beg leave to move-that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business."
We must remember that our founding fathers wanted separation of state from church, not church form state. They wanted to prevent our government from forcing "one" religion on a government, as did King Henry VIII. However, they wanted religion in our government.
In fact, since the beginning of The United States of America, it was the intention of our great leaders to have religion in our government:
- In God We Trust, is in every coin
- The 10 Commandments is behind the Supreme Court Justices
- etc.
God and Governments
Psalm 106:23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
- Therefore he (God) said
- would destroy them (The Nation of Israel)
- had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach
Ezekiel 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none
Therefore, it is self evident that God expects us to "stand in the gap" before him for the land (Nation). The only way we can do this is through our prayers!
Exodus 17:11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12 But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
- Moses held up his hand (Holding up one's hands means Praying).
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
So, only while Moses prayed did he prevail. Therefore, it is essential that we pray, continually.
When Minister Joe was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:
"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that we have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.
- We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
- We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
- We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
- We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
- We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.
- We have abused power and called it politics.
- We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.
- We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
- We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will and to openly ask these things in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen!"

OH; wait a minute....obama will have a peace talk with them. HA
I would like to point out that "In God we Trust" did not appear on our paper money until the 1950's. A law passed by the 84th Congress (P.L. 84-140) and approved by the President on July 30, 1956, the President approved a Joint Resolution of the 84th Congress, declaring IN GOD WE TRUST the national motto of the United States. IN GOD WE TRUST was first used on paper money in 1957, when it appeared on the one-dollar silver certificate. The first paper currency bearing the motto entered circulation on October 1, 1957.
So I must disagree with you when you say it was the intent of our founding father's to have religion in our government. Nor was it their intent to have government in our religion.
As for coins it was during the Civil War that "In God We Trust" first appeared. 1838 I believe was the first year it appeared and only on the one cent coins. Up until 1937 the words appeared intermittenly on coins depending on the coins worth.

Okay, so when God was still a big part of this country, what went right? What was better? Was there was no war? No poverty? No people living in sin? No unemployment, disease or natural disasters? I think it's YOU who are blind. Things are the same with or without your fabricated God.
Romans 11:36:
36For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
