I'm getting married today!

Those were the words that were echoing in my mind sixteen years ago today. This day was saturated with the essence of all my girlhood hopes and dreams...marrying my Prince Charming. The day was storybook perfect and we celebrated our new union on a Cruise Ship to a Caribbean Paradise.

Sixteen years later. I am still madly in love, even on those days that I don't particularly like my prince. In ten years we had six children, all singleton births so I should probably get extra credit for that. Things have definitely changed. Those midnight buffets with the ice sculptures were short lived...The cuddling for hours at a time in the throes of new love are a thing of the past too. Alan tends to hold the newspaper more hours than he does me, but we still have our moments where I sit on his lap or share an impromptu hug and dancing in the kitchen...which starts off a chain reaction of rolling eyes (from the kids, not me) and our youngest prying his little body between us saying, "Daddy, you're bugging Mommy!"

My lingerie has been traded in for fuzzy blue, multi-colored kitty pajamas...and yet, my man still thinks I am hot. Okay, I suspect we have both lost some brain cells along our journey of parenting. On that day sixteen years ago I was absolutely glowing, with love, with anticipation. I could hardly wait to fill our pages with the story of us. That story continues to grow and change-and I feel so blessed to see the beauty that continues to unfold right before my very eyes. Yes, our marriage has its ups and downs, but every day we make a choice-to love.

Happy Anniversary to us! I can hardly wait to grow old with my love...well; actually I can wait...a long-long-time from now. But, when age is inevitable, I definitely want him to be the one at my side...
