This is getting really ridiculous. Why would you comment on a post you have not read completely? If you have not read the links then do NOT comment.
I'm so disturbed by what I have just read. I suppose in the back of my mind I already knew this happend. I already knew this was being done in our maternity "care" system but it was just brought to the forefront of my brain, and I cannot ignore it.
Why? WHY do OBs become OBs if they do not truly have their patient's best interest at heart? And why, oh WHY do women THINK OBs have their best interest at heart? Why must we run to trained surgeons to give birth?
What is the purpose of induction? Why are we forcing babies out before they are ready? Do you really think you will be pregnant forever? Do you really think there is a medical reason for your induction? Is 80-90% of the US population of women really high risk? Do you really think that 33% of the women in this country would have died if it were not for their cesarean? What are these doctors really ordering? Distress to order maybe?
Not enough?
Your Ticket to an Emergency Cesarean
A laboring woman should not be confined to a bed strapped to monitors that are wrong 70-80% of the time! A laboring woman should be allowed to freely walk, eat, drink, pee, sit, squat, kneel as she pleases.
A laboring woman should not be given deadlines on when her baby must come out. A baby should be allowed to grow and develop in the uterus as long as it needs. And only God and the baby know how long it needs. A laboring woman is not a ticking time bomb.
Birth is NORMAL. Birth is not a medical event. A laboring woman should be treated with respect, given comfort, given support.

You know, you are right. And here's why. My son was supposed to be over 10 lbs, close to eleven, So, when I was to be 38 weeks, I was going to be induced so he would not grow larder inside my belly. Had it all planned out, I was going to see my son be the end of the week. I was soooo excited.
I went into labor the tuesday before my induction and had him the next day. He was only 8 lbs 2 oz, which is considerably smaller than his sister, who was 8lbs, 10 oz, and the projected weight of over 10 lbs.

I don't understand it either. And why don't more women know about this? It doesn't take a whole lot of time and research to find this kind of thing out but it seems like most women don't have a clue. It's very unfortunate, both for the women and their babies.
YzmaRocks,
I think a lot of it has to do with trust. Women trust their doctors. They think their doctors wouldn't do anything to harm them or their babies. They don't want to know otherwise.
I know about midwives, but I felt safer at the hospital with all those "evil" doctors. My babies were fine and well taken care of. There have been situations that have gone wrong having a baby at home too. It's not guaranteed that something couldn't happen anywhere.
Since some people are to lazy to click the links, here is the mot important part.
“Pit to distress.” How have I not heard about this? Apparently it’s quite en vogue in many hospitals these days. Googling the term brings up a number of pages discussing the practice, which entails administering the highest possible dosage of Pitocin in order to deliberately distress the fetus, so a C-section can be performed.
Yes folks, you read that right. All that Pit is not to coerce mom’s body into birthing ASAP so they can turn that moneymaking bed over, but to purposefully squeeze all the oxygen out of her baby so they can put on a concerned face and say, “Oh dear, looks like we’re heading to the OR!”
Never, never be induced or take pitocin for any reason. One thing they failed to mention is that a hyperstimulated uterus doesn't stop bleeding the way it should and you can also end up with a hysterectomy. Thanks for the post.
Not sure why the formating isn't cooperating. The bold is from the link.
Wonderful journal! =) I hope some women can take everything in and learn from it.
My strong desire is to become a midwife. That being said I would also like to add I was inducted twice by my own wishes. The first time my "midwife" broke my water for me to get labor started, and the second time my OB induced because I was having contractions for a week and we had a blizzard coming so if I had gone into labor I would be in big trouble. I also opted for a csection with my last birth of my twin boys who were both head down for 3 months. Why you ask? Simply because it was easier to me...I figured the chance was pretty high one would turn after the other was born and I would need a sec any way.

amen. Sadly, way too many people take on a certain profession because of selfish reasons....People become teachers because they get their summers off; doctors become doctors because it makes tons of money.... (i dont mean this with EVERYONE...just saying SOME do....and sadly it gives a bad name to many of the good ones...)
